Very important, read this if you're new to trading or my channel: if it's not a fully automated algorithm (whether coded or not), discretion (choosing when and when NOT to follow the system) is what can hypothetically make any approach work. The ORB strategy is nothing special, but one positive aspect is how narrow it focuses your trading on 1 specific thing. This means your learning is being targeted on a very specific moment, which should hypothetically be a benefit according to the current research on implicit learning (the same type of learning as playing a sport or instrument). Any approach is as valid as it is invalid, and I seriously recommend watching this video here so that you start using this approach with the right information and steps on what to do: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2qXg6lvir2cb7M If you're new to me, I have MANY prop firm payouts, but I'm not a trading-guru who sells courses. I've been hammering away at 1, 2, and 5 min ORB's for the past 2.5 years and overall, I'm profitable on the 5 ORBs. 1 min ORB's are extremely difficult for me and I find myself getting chopped up by price action too often. 2 Min are a bit easier, but 5 min is absolutely the sweet spot for me. This explanation video is actually a perfect facsimile for how I trade these setups. I love Matt Diamond's channel and have learned alot from it.

Just like in a move in the candlesticks, this channel/ clip is confirmation I’m doing it right. I have a large position TSLA at $285/ share, so in January I decided to start a separate trading account which in the last few days I discovered is a “scalping” account. Scalping is the way to go. EXACTLY as this clip suggests: Wait for the range (5-10 minutes) Enter on a good set-up/ resistance/ doji. Get in. Get out. I target 2.5%- 3.5% moves. Tesla always has a $5-$12 range basically EVERY SINGLE DAY. Profitable 3 months in a row. I’ve only had to sell 1x/ 1 day to buy the dip. Stay disciplined. DO NOT GET GREEDY!!! And it’s easy!!!

ily Iman. I appreciate your videos man!! it's cool that you talked about the ORB strategy, something I've been using for a while now, but you only used the 1 minute chart. Normally I trade this strategy on the 5 minute chart for liquid stocks, but with low premium cost for ATM strike contracts. This include AAPL, AMD, MSFT etc. I just find that it give me a large follow through move if I'm right but also a looser stop that wouldn't faze me because the contracts are relatively smaller those like TSLA. It works great on trending days, but also a lot is noise. I would eye ball the entrys if it was close enough to highs, I think I will start using the slope and check out matts other videos too. You're GOATed tho ❤. Ps do you use volume for confluence and confirmation, i assume so but idk not sure

In trading ORB I believe it's better to stick to just one or a few stocks so you get to know the behavior of the stock and option premiums. The variation in volatility gave me uncomfortably inconsistent p&l fluctuations when I was trying to play orb on a new stock every day. Not to mention switching back and forth between multiple tickers, only to miss the key breaks of technical levels causing me to fomo into a breakout at what would have been my exit and profit target if I were watching the whole story play out uninterrupted.

Don't you think orb can be confirmation bias? (Not sure about the proper term but hope you get it.) Because if you draw a line and enter at it , the price is bound to either be below or above it. So pretty much anyplace should work not just day high or low. Is there any material that supports that orb better than triangles and h&s patterns? I think it's not about the range breakout but the quick profit takes and loss cutting that makes this a winner.
@ImanTrading2 жыл бұрын
Great question, and I'm happy to see you questioning something. That's a great habit. You're right about drawing a line anywhere and doing this strategy the same way, but that randomness is missing structure. I don't know of any research on this strategy, but Matt Diamond is trustworthy and has been consistently profitable at doing this for a couple of years. I did this myself for a couple of months and was profitable, even though I messed up a few times. Without some dumb things that I did, this strategy would've made me a lot of money. I was a beginner though. One thing that we can objectively look at is the live replays. You will see how the price approaches the HOD and LOD, will actually slow down, it stalls and stays in the same place for a second (which is where we buy in), and then it either shoots through it with a ton of momentum or it reverses. Another objective point: It shoots through the area with way more momentum than how fast it reverses. So, with proper discipline, the profit you take will always be larger than the loss. Even if this strategy was a 50/50 chance of going through or not, the momentum that it has when going through the important levels is enough to offset the failures to break structure. You can see on one of the charts how many opportunities there can be in just one morning session. One way to determine the type of day is based on the wicks. I remember one trading morning when it started looking wicky, so I stepped back and followed my rules based on my analysis of a ton of Tesla morning sessions, and it proceeded to reverse and get crushed on every trading opportunity. These were some objective points, so, while there may be some confirmation bias about believing in this trading system coming out in this video, there are still many objective reasons as to why ORB is good. Of course, it has some negative aspects (just like all trading systems). No trading styles are perfect. Trading ORB on Tesla is extremely terrifying, and it was too much for me to handle. But, through a comment on this video, there are actually people who trade this on slower stocks. Hopefully I made sense in this long message, lol. Keep on always questioning what you see, even when it comes from people who try their best to be objective! I love to see that.

Hey appreciate your honesty. I notice this video is a year old. A year later and after learning more, would you still say this is a viable strategy for profits in the long term?
@ImanTrading Жыл бұрын
It’s certainly a viable strategy, but it takes a ton of discipline and experience to execute properly. Failing to cut just one loss can wipe out quite a bit of profits due to the sometimes violent rejections. I don’t recommend exclusively trading it because of how stressful it is lol, but the consistency of there being a big “pop” through the L/HOD is something to keep in mind regardless of your approach.

Can you do a video using level 2 with ORB?
@ImanTrading2 жыл бұрын
Level 2 was useless for me. As for time and sales, it speeds up AFTER it's done the opening range break, so it's useless. Usually the HOD and LOD get broken with a big pop, rather than a slow movement, so it's of no use to use the time and sales. Matt Diamond, the most prominent ORB strategy user, has them up on his screen but says that they aren't really that useful. At least, that's what he used to say about a year ago when I learned it from him. Not sure what he thinks now.

@ImanTrading2 жыл бұрын
Technically, a range has been created after the first minute. By that logic, a range has also been created after the first second of the market open. It’s not a good idea to treat the first two candles as the range. Sometimes it works out, but most of the time it’s way too volatile for most traders. A good trading guide has to have information that is helpful to the most amount of people, not necessarily the most skilled and experienced. Some people could trade that fast, but most are better off waiting. Yes, the price broke the second candle, but what happened after that m? It went straight back up. I talk about this more in the chart analysis, so I’ll leave it at that and let the video do the talking. Just because the first and second candles are different colors, and technically that is the range, it doesn’t mean that’s a good quality setup to play a low of day or high of day break.
@surajaayan26332 жыл бұрын

For simplicity sake if 15 minute ,1h & 4h trends are in the same direction, you have a trade set up in the same direction (one could fine tune entry 0n 5 minute charts). Dude, it was clear as a bell. You should have shorted at the open of the red bar...after the green rose, then dropped down and turned red...Those were two shooting stars, Any two reversal bars is a strong set up. But it even got better. As I stated, the third bar sent up a green solid bar which then failed, turning into a third wick...Three top wicks. I call this pattern, a Trilogy, denoting the three bars and three overhead wicks That is a reversal pattern....the third bar is a large red bar, another reason to short. The second bar is red and is the confirmation bar. That is the reason the third red bar had NO wick on its opening. The market was very bearish due to the strong reversal pattern. Not surprised the third bar drove through support, and the mkt put in six red bars in a row before the first green bar, a tiny green bar showing the bulls were weak......Why not use two minute bar? I know a hedge fund trader and that is his choice...hes been trading for 40 years. I could continue my analysis but enough for now...Have studied TA for 20 years.

I dunno why you don't use a 5 minute chart to use ORB if you are wating a 4-5 candlestick range in 1 minute to start trading breakouts. I use ORB daily in a 5 minute chart and you get the same effect.

Have you been consistent with 5 minutes orb?

How are you day trading stocks with the PDT rule

You also need to understand where folks are placing their stops. Price will always go there before resuming the trend.

Can you use this on 45 min chart?

Not this strategy, no. 45 minutes is longer than the entire trading session this is designed for lol

@@ImanTrading ok do you have 1 for people that cant check in but every hour or 2. Thanx

@@jrtill5585 sorry, I don’t. I used to trade this strategy, which is why I made a video on it. Sounds like swing trading would be a good fit for you. Or, trade futures, since their hours might be a better fit for your schedule.

Whats a good trail stop percentage for options about 10 days out? Thanks!
@ImanTrading2 жыл бұрын
Completely depends on your strategy and what the plan is :). Some people don’t like trailing stops, some people do. Personally, I find that trailing a stop just means you’ll get closed out as soon as it pulls back, since price never moves in just one direction for extended amounts of time

What platform do you use?

For this I used trader workstation with interactive brokers. I trade futures through NinjaTrader now though.

This was just from tradingview because I needed Tesla’s charts. Other than that, I use NinjaTrader 😁

@@ImanTrading I meant when you were live trading the options, was that ninjatrader? It looks like Matt Diamond uses lightspeed. I didn't realize you could trade options on ninjatrader. I hate ToS because its seems like I'm always jumping through a bunch of hoops to buy and sell options

@@MojoMfg ooooh lol my bad. I was using interactive brokers, using their trader workstation. Was clunky at times, but that’s what Matt used to use

@@ImanTrading Gotcha, well that looks like a really intuitive and fast platform as well. I'm just looking for more speed and ease of use. 2 clicks and you're in and out of a trade.

@@MojoMfg yessir, trader workstation is wicked fast. Plus, only $4 a month for all the necessary data, and very cheap commissions.

Hi sir! I need help regarding gaps .. While trading options... Sometimes my trade goes against me because I think the gap is going to fill. What to do in such situation
@ImanTrading2 жыл бұрын
Gaps are just another thing that attempts to simplify the market, when in reality it’s just another pattern that sometimes work and sometimes doesn’t work. This video I made will explain everything - kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3mWY6Sgi5xpjqs
