Could be a possible option of putting in a door into the corner where oil drums are. Built walls out back of the lean two. Make a storage space for them and possibly a good place for air compressor to keep the noise down.

Like you, I didn't know any better and piped the Air lines in my folks garage with CPVC. that was 41 years ago and it's still functioning. Never had a problem.

you made a lot of good points. Id like to put up a shop soon and have about 5 or 6 quotes for pole buildings. like you i wanted a concrete foundation and walls 2 foot above grade for the same reasons you mention. I already figured out the 8' door and mini dont work out too well with my current garage. a 12' wide door dont give you very much room on your mirrors pulling a truck in either. I wanted to do 80' long for my cranes and to get a whole semi truck in there with room to work around it. I started to get a spot cleared and leveled out last fall and hoping to resume here shortly with the weather getting nicer.

@@DirtPerfect sounds good. MLH and jason works a lot are 30-45 minutes from me. tom decasale is an hour and 45 minutes and Garret is about 4 hours from me and The volvo customer center is an hour 45 as well.

Been lurking a while and subbed..... Shop envy for sure!! I am a Safety Manager, and noticed many pro-active things you have done. Congrats!!! But a couple things need to be pointed out and addressed: 1) I would put an extinguisher between the two doors... Less travel time in an emergency. 2) Clear access to the one one the North(?) wall. 3) Grinders. Guards need to be on them, and kept on. (I've seen a few of your shop vids where the guards are not on the grinders...) And 4) I would recommend adding wearing a face shield when using alot of the power equipment. Think of it as double eye protection. These are minor quibbles I know, but safety is paramount. Keep up the good work, and keep loving that family of yours!! Lou

I agree with your assessment about polebarn vs stick built. One advantage of a pole barn or metal building is that you are usually working inside, out of the weather sooner during construction.

Awesome projector screens. I installed alot of them in a school district ... also interactive. Fun stuff. Alton, IL. College was fun, for sure. Mostly just got certificates. I should have done the whole college thing with the chicks 'n all, but it wasn't me. I have never bought blue, painter's tape. Waaay too expensive. Great product, tho. You have thousands of dollars worth of tools. Wow. I don't see one Estwing hammer. Jus' Sayin'. Ultimately, well organized. Good job except for labeling. You have saved a fortune on fixing your own sh*t. Holy moly. Thanks for sharing.

Our Sawmill is in a 40x40x16. 7" floor with 5/8" radiant heat pipe 12"OC for quick recovery. Great tour, pat on the back for all the recycled items.

One thing you might like are large wooden blocks from bridge planking. They are handy for supporting equipment, frames, support for welding while using jack stands and bottle Jack's. I had railroad iron in the concrete for dozer so it won't bang up the concrete. Very sweet overhead crane. My door is wider so large equipment like combine, planters, disc and forage harvester can get in. We have an extra side door for normal size vehicles with a drain to wash indoors. Love your shop! Well organized and planned out. The OSB was the right choice.

Greetings from Las Vegas and a big thanks, Dirt Perfect, for a great tour of your shop!! Very thoughtful and innovative on your shop!! Also, the insulation in that usually a figure is 400SF/ton of AC and at 44'x40' for 1760SF with 2.5 tons you're at 700SF/ton so well done!! I wish my late Dad's shop in Spokane was hi-bay like yours but before morphing to a GC he was a millwork/cabinetry sub then became a GC so his shop was built on "short money." Anyway, didn't realize you had that mezzanine area where you do your videos. When I first saw the length of this, I thought well maybe too lengthy but it really moved along well!! If anyone is planning an equipment maintenance shop, WATCH THIS VIDEO!! All the best!!

Great video, don’t know how I missed this for so long. Well thought out. Love the overhead crane. My imagined dream shop has required one since I worked at a place that had one. Someday if it ever gets built it will exist. Thanks for sharing your opinion on height. I’ve been speculating on that for years, you have some solid ideas behind it. As a single person I’ve often said all I want is a pole barn with a Homewood suites room attached. Good solid thought against the pole barn too. I often thought ICF would be nice but probably overkill. I had a boces instructor who’s work shop was a abandoned never used town septic tank made of 2’ thick concrete with a opening for a garage door blown in one side. Town he lived in built it pre WW2 but when the war happened they abandoned the project, afterwards it was projected to be too small and never came back to it.

I agree 100% on pole barn vs other construction. Another thing you didn't touch on was how much a particular building will flex in the wind. Without basically building a house inside a pole barn, you'll always be able to find the seams in the drywall cause it will always be cracked! I'm leaning toward a steel framed building, however for my use.

Thanks for the tour Mike Nice shop . In my shop 23 years old I have a hoist but like you said my ceiling isn't high enough I can just stand Under vehicles and equipment no extra space. I did all my solid airline in Copper. With water filter & oiler at five Quick connect points. I can fit my 303.5C through my large door. And all our tractors and our wacker neuson dumper just taking the beacon off. And can only get our cat 416 just to the cab . Anyway thanks for sharing 👍😀 and have a good one. 🇨🇦 Craig

October we built a 40x48x16 shop. 2x6 on 24in center walls. Do have 2 12x14 doors. Do wish I had thought about a overhead crane, that would have been sweet. After it was builted I wished I'd went 48w and 40deep. Love your setup.

Very nice shop you got there! I like the old school feel it has to it with some of your grandfather's tools and such, I'm also sentimental about all my grandfather's tools I was blessed enough to inherit. I do have one suggestion, it appeared to me that some of your air lines coming off of your compressor looked to be PVC. If so, you should look into replacing them as soon as you can with copper or compressed air specific tubing. I have some personal experience with PVC air lines and I am extremely lucky I wasn't injured or worse. When I was probably 16 or 17 I worked at an independent auto repair shop that had their air system plumbed in PVC and the first time a section exploded, chunks of pipe missed me by a couple of feet at the most. Despite the protests of the other techs and myself, the owner had a new section of PVC installed. Couple months later a section on the other side of the shop let go and blasted a customer's car taking out the passenger side glass and doing some pretty decent body damage. Fast forward several years and I was at work at my second career as a Firefighter/Paramedic and was dispatched to an emergency call from a body shop. Initial info was 2 injured workers following an explosion, that shop also had PVC air lines and during the hot summer the main branch of I believe it was 1.5" or 2" PVC exploded, one of the workers had some lacerations to his arms but the other worker had several penetrating wounds to his neck, chest, and abdomen and was severely injured. We took him in as a level 1 trauma patient and he barely survived and from what I know did suffer permanent injuries from it. Anyways, pardon the long winded comment, I just wanted to pass on my experiences with that. I really enjoy your channel and you seem like a genuinely good guy and I would hate it if you or anyone else ever got hurt from that. Great job on the crane, she's a beast!! Nice building, the crane is super cool. Grew up running 9u D6s we used to farm with them, still have 7u D4, and D6B direct transmissions machines. Farm some 50% slopes, SE Washington state. Not too many people left around here even know how to work on them. Still any number of 9u's around our area in running order our area would be a resource for parts when rebuild gets underway.

love the shop .. like how you did the garage doors so the crane works ,, the place I bought a year ago has a pole barn ,, yes it would be better if it was stick built .. i have put up 2 x 4 s getting ready for insolation then wall covering ,, my shop is 30 x 40 10 ft walls ,, wish was 12 but I did not build it .. I use a engine hoist a lot .. and chain hoist off the trusses not safe ..I need to put steel beams up 2 ton would be the max I would be lifting .. need to find out what size beams I need ,, would love to have the over head crane system . rebuilding 1 of my trailers .. would be nice for lifting the axles .. there heavy engine lift too hard to move around with that type of lift ,, Great build on the shop and great video .. P/S where is the fridge ..??? I have a mini fridge in my shop with PEPSI , my shop is not attached to the home ..also the osb you put up I think is better for sound doing filming ,, where if it were metal the sound would echo..

Nice shop I will say back then building the way you did stick building walls was more economically efficient so to speak. Now days the pole barn packages would save anyone lots of money on finishing off. One they have not changed much on the structure prices. Two you can work on finishing off inside as the prices drop on materials and as a person have the money saved up to spend. Milwaukee and dewalt have ups and downs as you say. Few years the Milwaukee batteries just sucked. Years before that dewalt batteries sucked 😅😂 they both have their years where they are amazing.

Nice shop, I wish I had thought more about things when I built my shop/garage. I built a 3 car that ts 28 by 44 with wood shop above. both with 9 foot ceilings. 2 of my over head doors are 8' high by 10' wide. Works good for most things except I have to remove the top off my tractor top to fit in! Also as to your shop, it looks a lot more organized than what I have see recently; HaHa!
