Yeah at some point I'd rather just by an original handheld for the games I want to play, a flashcart, and maybe mod it a bit myself (That's what I did with my GBA anyway) Significantly cheaper. Price to performance seems to be about right for this to me. It is certainly not the cheapest option with that impressive AMD APU, but its not badly priced either. So if its as well made as suggested, and feels like a real premium product... Being a 'real' computer you can do anything on is nice, it only seems expensive if all you really want is the old consoles that are not yet so old as to be stupidly overpriced... Though the lack of brightness control would kill it for me, I want nice dim screens at the bottom.

This more of a luxury item than anything. Playing literally any DS game is as easy as getting a cheap R4 flash card and a used DS (or dust off the old one you have knocking around in your closet)

I really want one of these, so many cool use cases, even just for PC gaming, like you can have your trainers open on the second screen, or controller layouts and macros, it's just perfect for PC gamers who want a handheld, and the fact that you can play DS/3DS/Wii-U/Game&Watch/Dual-screen-arcade-games/Dual-screen-PC-games, or you can have your game hub or map highlighted on the 2nd screen, if you are playing music you can have your music app open on the second screen, game walkthrough both text and video form on the 2nd screen, and another really dope use, is I can use MIDI programs for making beats on it on the go, you could even just have the game cover art open of the game you are playing.

I bought the OpenPandora handheld gaming device many years ago. It has a small keyboard on it. It's powerful enough to emulate systems all the way up to the PS1. It is still my favorite handheld, although my jailbroken/homebrewed 3DS is a close second.

To fix the Chrome window issue: Plug in a mouse and keyboard, open a new Chrome window, move the window to the top screen (make sure this Chrome window is NOT in fullscreen mode), with the Chrome window up top hold the "ctrl" key on your keyboard and with that key held down left-click (so the normal click) on the mouse to close the window (so click on the "X" button top-right of the Chrome window with the mouse). This tells Windows that you would like Chrome (or any application) to open in that area of screen (unfortunately this does not always work).

its always funny to me seeing people gripe about the price of these things, because while $800 is certainly not cheap (particularly if you are only looking for an emulation device) i think its crazy that a small company like aya neo can release a device like this at that low of a price point. if this was released a few years ago it would probably be like $2000. overall i think its kind of a dumb and niche product, but it excites me in a way that other pc handhelds outside of the steam deck havent. im hoping it does well enough that the concept doesnt just disappear because i think with a bit of work on the hardware design and software it could become a really cool product category

If Wii U / Switch / Xbox / PS3 / PC games aren’t a necessity, I’d say a Surface Duo (2 if possible) is the superior DS device with a telescopic controller, ofc. Much better battery life than the Ayaneo along with dual OLED displays. Also, a lot les headache and tinkering with these emulator settings to get dual screen working for DS as Drastic works perfect for it. The fact that both displays are near 6” 4:3 displays that fold completely fold back, makes it also perfect for all 4:3 systems like N64, GC, PS2, SNES, etc. Pair this with any other PC handheld like Ally or Deck OLED and you’re at near the same price as the Ayaneo DS with one being dedicated more for a emulation system with longer battery.

This is awesome, but also one of those EXTREMELY NICHE USECASE kind of devices. Like, most of the stuff you could use this for can be done on a modded 3DS or another PC/Android handheld, but the Wii U emulation is something so unique to this that it works as a compelling selling point. I suppose if you're looking for a beefy handheld PC it also works, but as someone with a almost $4000 gaming PC that's not something I'm particularly interested in with any of these handhelds.

TL;DR: I think this is neat, there's some stuff I dislike like how recessed those control sticks are and how shallow the buttons are, and obviously that price point is a big point of contention, but I can see more stuff like this coming out in the future for cheaper as they years roll by. I can definitely see a value in replicating the DS' dual screen and/or clam shell design. If engineered well, the clam shell design is actually a really good way of making the system smaller (thus more portable) and better at protecting the screen and controls in case of drops (if dropped while closed at least.). And now that Nintendo seems to be done with the DS line of consoles, being able to play DS and 3DS games in the ways the developers intended is only going to get harder and harder now. These games were designed to have a second touchable screen right below the top screen, so I definitely see an appeal in making a new beefed up knock-off DS. Something that can play DS and 3DS games with a higher resolution while also being strong enough to play games designed for more taxing systems. You've got texture packs for Majora's mask 3D that an official 3DS model simply doesn't have the power to run nowadays too. And while we all have smart phones now, I think it's a nice quality of life feature to be able to play a single screen game on one screen and have a guide open on another. I'm not really liking the how deep into the console the control sticks seem to be though. They probably did that so the device could fold ontop of itself, but I wonder why they didn't just copy Nintendo and make a small disc shaped pad as the control sticks rather than a recessed stick. The buttons are also seem a little too shallow too, they make me think I'd get a hand cramp trying to hold them for too long (to be fair, I would get slight cramps trying to hold the gas button in Mario Kart for the 3DS back in the day too). The DS/3DS is still my preferred device to play the Ace Attorney series on despite the switch and PC collections for the games, I pick the games up every couple of years and playthrough them in bed like I'm reading a book before going to sleep, the DS just feels right for that series. And then there is some games like Hotel Dusk which is probably never getting ported to any else and that was physically designed for a DS. And while the Switch is a portable console as well it simply is just slightly too unwieldy for me to use as a portable console, while also just being too under powered to be what I look to game on at home. That all being said... 800 to 900 dollars is *STEEP*. At that price, like you said, you could just buy a 3ds/"new" 3ds secondhand with a bunch of games and still be able to play a bunch of emulators (up to a PS1 on the "new" 3DS model). Compatability on PS1 games for 3DS is pretty hit or miss, but it's a least very cool you could do that. And if you don't care about the second screen feature, you could just buy a Steam Deck, a Switch to hack, or one of those Gameboy look-a-alike emulation devices. I think this device will really only appeal to people who feel the same way about my previous paragraph while also really enjoying tinkering with a device and making it just the way they want it. You spent a lot of time setting up the device, and for a lot of people that's a minus to just plugging and playing, but I do think there's an audience of people who genuinely enjoy messing with the settings until they're just right (and then not playing the actual games they've installed because they spent all their energy on that. But hey, we all have fun in our own ways. Some people might prefer messing around with the insides of their car over actually driving it, they're probably called mechanics lol) I'm willing to believe the price is due to the high specs, difficult to manufacture shape, and niche expected demand. Let's remember that most game consoles are typically sold at a loss so that more people will buy the games that actually make the company money, while this has no expected revenue stream outside of just selling the console. But I'm sure as the years go by, the manufacturing process will be figured out better and the specs will be easier to achieve, so the price will probably go down on updated models in the future.

You can probably run something like Lossless Scaling on these kinds of systems to double the FPS in games. If you can pair it with RTSS to hard limit framerates, you can easily pull a very smooth experience on most things.

I just have to say that I absolutely love my Lenovo Legion Go! Like that thing is such a great little device for literally any and every type of gaming. The controller and joysticks are really good and responsive as well as the ergonomics being good for me at least. Plus like there hasn't been a game that I have not been able to play other than City Skylines 2 in terms of power or like issues running. Literally everything else and I have tested and played load of games and like AAA titles on here that work great so far. The only other thing you have to watch out for is the same thing that all of these will have to watch and that's games that don't have controller support like older PC games which is a bit of a let down but that's not on the handhelds fault its more of just old steam and PC games sometimes didn't integrate like Xbox 360 controller support and such. Other wise that screen is big and beautiful and this is literally one of the only handheld devices that I think would be really great for games like Baldurs Gate 3 and Divinity original sin 2 because like the words and screen sizing makes games so nice to play and its really easy to see and read things that are smaller text in games. I do also like that on Lenovo website you have the option to buy all the parts for your Legion go, I do think they need to bring the prices down but for a first generation product I can forgive some things like the controllers and replacement parts being a little expensive. Over all the device is worth the money they are charging and such a good time. I would recommend getting some joystick extenders but like this has a better controller than the PS5 or Xbox rn honestly and having Hall effect is a game changer fr! I am really interested in something like this for mainly emulation but I really don't know if the prices are justified because with the controller and joysticks being recessed and things like that it will make playing games like FPS and others really not pleasant to play for me at least! Edit: One side note if you are buying one of these handhelds just know there could be resolution issues where games don't always want to choose the right screen resolution or size. This has only happened on a few games where it seems to be pretty normal like YuGiOh the old card game steam version where I had to go into the files and like force it to do 1920x1200p 🤷‍♂ Generally there seems to always be a work around for the like 2-3 games I have had this issue with just look online.

The only good thing that can happen to this is that ChimeraOS adds this device to their roadmap or someone create custom OS for this. Like all features of Legion Go is now working on BazziteOS. Windows is also made for desktop, not to be power efficient for smaller devices. Unlike unbloated OS that is made for handheld devices.

I’ve never thought the 2 screen idea was that great, even at the launch of the first DS I was excited about it but more bc it was a new Nintendo handheld. Even back then the idea of 2 screens didn’t click. I still think it’s unnecessary but Nintendo’s weird gimmicks end up becoming one of their best anti-piracy measures perhaps unintentionally. All the gimmicks do is make it a bit more challenging to emulate the games as they were with precision and with the form factor but people will still find ways to do it. The idea of emulating Wii Sports seems kind of funny to me but I bet someone’s doing it.

Neat device overall, but basically: - Get this if you want a multipurpose device for everything dual screen (with the money to burn for it). - Buy a 2 or 3ds at a fraction of the price for 3ds/ds/gba emulation in particular. - Use or buy a wiiu or phone for play wiiu titles using pretendo for online stuff.

You can pick up the phone mount from DeckMate/Mechanism and hook up an external monitor/your phone to your Steam Deck. Twice (or more) the cost and twice the jank!

Handheld Companion allows you to create individual virtual controller profiles for each program or game. E.g. I have the virtual Xbox360 as default, but have a profile where it would run a virtual PS4 controller every time I fire up RPCS3 for PS3 emulation, so this way you don't need to switch virtual controllers every time. I does it automatically.

Mmm. Now imagine if they actually gave it 3D functionality. My #1 gripe with the Nintendo 3DS models was that the graphics/resolution were/was too low for the 3D to not hurt my eyes.

The software dimmer by Nelson pires may help with your screen brightness troubles. I can’t remember if this is the one I used to use on my computer but it can dim your screen past the normal brightness values

I appreciate your video, but I find the cons you mentioned to not be enough, because the device has so much going for it, especially with it being the first attempt to make such a portable dual screen Windows device, when other people start getting their hands on it and start making mods for it or software to help with the functionality and stuff, that's when this device will finally shine just like the Ally and Legion Go are currently doing, as those devices also were pretty flawed when they were first released, but people are currently loving them after the community has gotten very involved into tweaking them as much as they can. I expect to eventually see people installing Bazzite OS on this device to get the Steam Deck experience, as that happened for the Ally and the Legion Go too, and for some people they are actually enjoying themselves much more using that, since that OS uses less resources and has better battery profiles which end up extending a game session without needing to recharge. What I look forward the most though is for people to start downgrading Windows 11 to Windows 10 and see how that runs on the Flip DS, as for many folks they liked doing that on the Ally, and I also agree that Windows 11 just gives off an icky like feeling, after I tried using it on my primary desktop and eventually reverted back to 10 due to conflicts and issues with the software I regularly use. I can't wait for the Ayaneo Flip DS to become available online, as I was tempted to do the crowdfund for it on IndieGoGo, but I do not trust such websites anymore after being scammed so many times through Kickstarter and stuff.
