Wow, truly fascinating. The people at Schwalbe should feel proud of what they're accomplishing.

I am so glad I watched this. This is such a cool process and I love that they can utilize the process to produce the fuel needed to complete this. This is the type of stuff they need to figure out how to do with car tires and other such rubbers that do not break down very always going back to harvest raw rubber. Very impressive. I sent this video to 6 people. Kudo to Schwalbe.

Yeah it’s really really impressive isn’t it!? Thank you for sharing it too I appreciate it. It’s quite an information heavy video but I think an important one to show and hopefully more people realise that it’s doable and that they’re trying to help too

Super interesting to know they can recycle tubes and tyres, create free energy, a new sustainable fuel, and reduce CO2 - truly innovating. I’ve only ever run their Marathons and their AV4 tubes on my Brompton and on mixed surfaces of road (asphalt, chip-seal) and light off-road gravel surfaces (South Downs Link etc) I get roughly 4,500 miles. My next pair of tyres (ready to fit) will be Marathon Almotion.

Chris, lovely video presentation. If I could make a suggestion. Lots of the places you visit are wonderful however their ceilings are horrible looking lol. Beautiful furnishings, terrible looking ceilings. Camera angle, it's interesting looking at their horrible ceilings and up your nose. I find it weirdly entertaining yet I would suggest a different camera angle, cheers, love the videos!

Sometimes you miss parts of the conversation and I prefer it to be more natural as opposed to asking people to then say the same thing again.

Have you heard about the upcoming IndieVelo Grand Tour? It’s a 5 day stage race with GC, mountain and sprint jerseys! Would be fun to see you there and it would make for really fun YT content!

The recycljng programme sounds fantastic. However it seems alot of energy is used in recycling the tyres and inner tubes (transporting recycled tyres to the centre, the heating process etc). What is the carbon footprint of the recycling process compared to direct manufacturing of the raw materials?
@ChrisHallRides2 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s really great that they’re doing this which, as far as I’m aware no other tire manufacture is doing this. It’s a big reason also why they take other brand tires which they also need to justify doing it too they were explaining. The current biggest stumbling block is the transport. The factories that recycle the tires are expensive to build, hence why it’s only really happening in Germany currently. The factories themself are powered from the oil which they make from the recycling process so their footprint is pretty small, especially when you look at producing with new raw materials. I was explained part of that is because in many of the factories they don’t have quite the same drive to be as sustainable as possible so the carbon footprint is higher (schwalbe own their own factory and have done since maybe the 1960s at a guess so have a lot more control on that too.) You can read quite a bit about it all here: www.schwalbe.com/en/CSR?srsltid=AfmBOooovvSnAU-YH65w1bVr_u7bVk8K9XBv8917zodNUBPnQPCf6tMT Hopefully more brands start to follow suit too.

@@ChrisHallRides thanks for the information. It looks like an 80% reduction in co2 through the recycling process. Transport/travel/commuting as you state is by far the greatest percentage of their footprint. I have really enjoyed the factory tour vids so far. thanks for sharing.

Do the Aerothane tubes come with their new valve system?

@@ChrisHallRides true. Don´t know if it´s the pressure (heavy rider and I sit quite back) or just plain user error or bad luck.

It’s either a Tailfin one or a custom made one. Sorry that trip was a while back 😅
