Refreshing is a good title... Bullet proofing in my book is upgrading with processes such as Cryogenics, DLC thermal coatings and barriers etc..

I had an issue on my M3 with the cam gear bolts shearing on the intake side and having to get a new head so yea its real.

The bolts are not a fluke bmw decided to use a upgraded bolt for that set up the older style torx they used that with a nipple in the center the updraded bolts do not have that anymore and yes the old ones would sheer off causing a timing issue

Ich hätte den Zylinderkopf demontiert um die Zylinderkopfdichtung zu prüfen um sie gegebenen falls zu ersetzen,eine weitere Schwachstelle beim S54.Eventuell dann noch die Zylinderkopfschrauben ersetzt durch Stehbolzen von ARP.Tellerscheiben hinter den Zahnrädern könnte man noch ersetzen,die vom S62 passen und sind etwas stärker.

I think the fuss with the gears is that the bolts would back out and then the tabs would come out

Don’t use aftermarket water pumps They don’t last always genuine BMW
