The biggest thing for dust is to create positive pressure inside the van, a filtered vent with a fan sucking air in makes it so no dust can come in. If you have negative pressure then no sealing will solve it
@SlowRoamers5 ай бұрын
I’ve seen this done before, actually, it’s super cool. I’m not sure where we could apply a system such as this at this point, but perhaps in the next build that I alluded to. 😉
@chrisgerman56995 ай бұрын
@@SlowRoamers it wouldn’t take much, does your factor A/C have a filter? Taking any air in from the outside will eventually create positive pressure but if your roof can is sucking then you’ll have negative pressure. Perhaps a filter around your roof fan and reverse the flow

We have a 2003 cutaway quigley ford E350. I just put F-550 cast iron rear spring mounts AND 1990s F Superduty springs. They are perfect!! I am likely going to throw a Dana S135 F550 rear diff under it. I already own it, has 3:91s and Detroit locker. The current Dana 70 just doesnt have the big brakes i want. The current running gear is from an Excursion. Front is fine (Dana 50) , but back is anemic for braking. Its mostly highway and boondocking. Ooooh - SOOOO - she does need to shed a few!!! I've always wondered why folks buy a rig add a foot and a half of sh*t to the back (which will rattle - which will deteriorate quicker - which is heavy as F hanging further out back (propoising)- which will certainly be more prone to theft etc etc) in lieu to simply buying a rig that is a foot longer. I chose to buy an appropiately sized van (mid length mid height) with no cr*p on da back & definitely no gas guzzling roof rack. (which sucks at the least 2 mpg depending on how big of a sail you are sporting-:)
@SlowRoamers5 ай бұрын

@SlowRoamers5 ай бұрын
Yeah, the stuff off the back are things we don’t want inside or need easy access to eg. spare tire, propane bottle. I tried my hardest not to have stuff bolted all over the exterior the van and did pretty good considering the past iteration of the van. Meg had already purchased the van when we met so I didn’t have much say it what we drive (not that I’d change anything); however, a shorter van, in our case, is desirable as it has a shorter wheel base and is thus less likely to high centre and increases departure angle. I think it our fuel mileage issue is more to do with weight and tire size. The top is about as aerodynamic as you can get for these vans and roof rack is about as low profile as I can make. In fact, if we put the van in a wind tunnel, I’m pretty sure the majority of incoming air would go directly over where the rack is. Anyway, can’t win’em all!🤣 Thanks for watching, Terry!

What gear ratio are you using in your 70 series rear end? I could see where low range would be helpful, but I like the simplicity of the 2wd setup. We’ve been roaming around I our over laden 2018 Sprinter and haven’t really “needed” 4wd but we have needed the low range to preserve the transmission. We love your travels and the rig. ❤
@SlowRoamers5 ай бұрын
We regeared to 4.10’s which returned it back to “factory” gearing with the larger tires. The low range is what I wish we had the most.
@ironduke3332 ай бұрын
@@SlowRoamers Any reason you didn't go with a lower ratio like 4.56 or 4.88? Still not off road low range low with higher highway rpms? Worst of both worlds?
@SlowRoamers2 ай бұрын
@@ironduke333 Basically just wanted to have "factory" gearing again. With the 33" tires and 4.10's, our RPM range returns to pretty close to factory. We don't prioritize offroad travel, we like it and look for gravel back routes but ultimately we're spending most of our time on highways and need as good driveability and fuel economy as we can get from this van.
