I get back to this a few times a year, to remember the greatness of Jugi. Jugi, you rule. Romeo Knight, we live neighbours and so I will not tell you that you rule. Because Jugi does. Any local issues, I am perfectly free to discuss this at our nearest local pub or restaurant Romeo Knight.

Onwards is probably one the best demomusic ever, not to say the best, mostly because it was deeply authentic and faithful to the heroic spirit of the demoscene. Just imagine the amazing surprise it was at the non-internet age. You were booting this demo and all in a sudden you were getting shivers down your spine because of the outstanding demo and music. Not like another demo. This one was a blast especially at a time when PC demos were exploring some more "experimental" things. Dope came back to the real spirit, the in-you-face routine, the ethereal melodies, the "voyage" (BTW like in Razor 1911 "Voyage" whose music by Tip & Mtx was also of this kind). Romeo Knight has succeeded in doing what it had to be : capturing the emotions and organic feeling of the song by NOT doing some kind of techno remix. This is truly a masterpiece for all people who had gone through these 5 or 6 core years of the "90's" demoscene. THANK YOU ! (an ex-Scoopex member)

I wonder If Jugi was aware in 1992 what he was doing ;-) This song is still alive, 20 years later and it always pulls me out of bad mood and makes me happy. Thanks Jugi for making my life happier.

This sounds stupid, but I got tears in my eyes listning to this. This is truly an awesome tribute to the original! I've had plans on my own, doing my own version of this master piece, but did not feel I came close to something worth to be associated with it, like you did! Well done!

I can't believe I just discovered this remix and had the exact same response as you too. It's brilliant!

Yes, the part around 03:00 stands out as "that one acoustic part." Could have been great in a remix where all instruments sound acoustic, but here it stands out like a red door on a blue car.

Not bad. The electric guitar part is a little over-articulated though.

Nice, but no. Original is a master piece. All the "remixes" are just horrible. It's just too good.

The original version is better. So many things is off in this version. For starters. 100% of the soul is gone here.
@bluebull3992 жыл бұрын
The original sounded muddy. Unfortunately, that was a drawback of early tracker music, there was no way to EQ the individual tracks. I'm pretty certain if this version came out back in the day, everybody would prefer this. It would have been mind blowing to hear real guitars in a tracker song.

Some "remastered" classics (second reality, dope, etc) wouldn't suck. Just full HD, higher polygon count, better audio interpolator, but all the old art and everything in software would probably run in 60fps on modern systems. And unlike modern software, it wouldn't fall apart when MS pushes a major update.
@arvenius2 жыл бұрын
I think the main problem for that is that most of the original sources are gone or not gonna compile anymore without heavy reworking... so you can as well start anew and as a democoder you probably want to do sth more original than to copy an old classic (you probably cant beat anyway).

I agree, one COULD do better. But remaking old demos (Kefren's Desert Dream, 2nd Reality, Conspiracy's Chaos Theory) is a sompetition in its own right. For example, 2ndR has been ported to the Atari ST (sort of sucky, because synch and graphical detail have been handled sloppily), the C64 (very cool one, doesn't look THAT great but if they had played that on the C64 launch, it would have made news on the big TV stations, and the "plastic cup" steeldrums and the "pac-man-ish" piano before the break is sort of old school cool), and even in a quite limited scope even on a Game Boy. At the same time, there has been an eight-kilobyte remake which runs on modern PCs -- but they went a bit too far IMO. A 16k, a bit closer to the original, would have rocked. Bottom line: C64 rocks, 8k is OK, ST is technically impressive but ugly, and Amiga never showed up. Chaos Theory is already a 64k for post-2000 PCs and has been remade in 4k, which doesn't look TOO bad either. And Desert Dream has been ported to both the C64 (again, with a pretty C64-ish sound that's surprisiongly close to the original) and newer PCs.
