Wow! Wow! Steve, this episode was just on fire. Art is such a great guest, his willingness to share, and his excitement about the profession got me fired up. I think I “fanboyed” more than you! I was listening to this in the car and when you both were keeping the secret of the shot I stopped the show until I got home to see if I could dissect the shot. Nope! I had him dropping in the background. As usual, I’m gonna storyboard something like this for for the FB team. If it comes to fruition you’ll be the first to see! Thanks again for your great show.

Hey Terrell! Thanks man. Yeah, I love Art’s work and process. This guy is so far ahead of everyone else I know. His shot of Bob Iger leaving Disney is amazing.

Wow, what an amazing, complex shot! Loved hearing the details of everything that went into creating this. It must be quite rewarding to put it all together and see your vision come to fruition with the final image. I imagine working with such well known celebrities adds a bit of pressure, at least for the first thousand times or so.

Steve, feel free to keep on talking long format with the guests you keep coming up with. (Works for rogan). Im sure there are some time constraints, yours and theirs, but these episodes are very educational and inspirational. Another excellent episode.

Thanks so much Andrew, for watching and for the feedback. It’s something I’ve fought myself over many for years. It used to be I had podcast feed constraints, because video files are large. Not an issue here, obviously, but it’s the same video in the feed. That’s eased a bit with my host recently adding more space to my plan. My guests often have very tight schedules too. Still, I’m getting more comfortable going long. The show I just recorded with Ian Spanier is 1:26! Cheers, and have a great weekend.

Fantastic video and fantastic work given that this was one shot of many taken and many setups across 2 locations all on the same day and also on the 2nd day (hour) in Cannes. Lots of questions - "now we know" it was a comp of course now one "knows" my eye is drawn to the edges of the comp and 2 areas of "odd" "choices": 1) the size of QT in the photo -- QQQ Is QT "sooo much" larger than the 3 stars - his "head" (or heed if one is Scottish) or Mellon or DOME is HUGE. QT is 1.85m (6'1") tall, whereas LDC is 1.83m (6') and BP 1.8m(5'11") and of course MR is 1.68m(5'6"). So QT is not much bigger than the others - but it looks like he is. I would have been tempted to "shrink him" a little to provide a little more balance in the perspective of the shot. But I assume since Art & Team measured and replicated everything precisely his shot is accurate. I have not yet done the maths but reducing the image size of him to 97% or 95% would have - to my eye reduced the dominance of the huge QT dome (he he) -- or was QT's presence simply reinforced by being by far the largest head in the image. Then 2) there are 2 areas of the background that don't quite work for me - which could have been fixed in post. One is on the left hand side of the image where the curtain/wall is blown-out and this seems odd AND then the curtain that passes behind QT cuts across the face. Here I am wondering about whether a slightly smaller QT would have allowed the "inconvenience" of a line bisecting the face to have been avoided. OR the curtain could have been adjusted in post before comping in QT. I have no issue with QT's position or the balance of locations and lines between the 4 faces (other than the size of QT's dome)

I would be interested to know how many photographers have ADHD. I recently (at almost 50) learned I am probably ADHD. And I feel like many ADHD people who need to keep “going”/“doing” things so I feel like because photography is something where you are continually learning … continually doing.. I feel like ADHD people are attracted to photography naturally. Would be an interesting survey to take of guests.

Hey David, Interesting point. I’d agree, I think. Unfortunately, for many that would be an invasive, too personal, question, so I wouldn’t ask it. Still, it could very well be true.
