People don't realize that songwriting is usually more lucrative long-term than being the musician. If PARTYNEXTDOOR knows that he wrote a hit song, it would be more lucrative to hand it over to a more established artist so that he can get more money for his percentage of sales and royalties. At the end of the day, PARTYNEXTDOOR has to make a living, and writing songs for other artists are where he has found success. If anything, more press related to the reference tracks he made could be a key part of making him have enough hype for his next project, which would be another way to make some extra money

Joe is right, when songwriters who can sing write song for other singers he writes it specifically to fit their sound, their vocal abilities/techniques. Work is a great example of that, he wrote that for Rihanna's vocals, it's not a hard song to sing, it's easy going on and carribean theme fits perfect for Rihanna. That's why you have artist like Whitney Houston for example who didn't write her songs but the songs that are written for her are specifically for her because of her vocal range and technique, you won't hear to many people sing Whitney's song exactly how she sings them because her vocal range is wide, the songs that were written for her are challenging because her technique was top notch.
