Same here, I was a HUGE Gambino fan even back to his Sick Boi, Poindexter, IAJAR days. Nadeska said "if any rap fans say that they knew early Gambino would be where he is today, they're buggin'" @ 19:44, and for me honestly, while I didn't think he would turn his sound into a more R&B/funk infused one, I knew he would be as big as he is today. thing is samples are very powerful they haven't found a new twist to them yet, the young producers don't dig in the crates or have the skill set for sample making , like myself , it would be dope

How would they too. The current sound doesn't really acknowledge that. A lot of todays shit is synth and keys based with a heavy 808. And the requirements for a melody is pretty minimal. U dont need to be a piano expert to come up with something catchy lol but i do think the more mainstream u r, the more risky it is that ur ass will get caught with a uncleared sample

@@TalentedKamarty just like the 80s and 90s took james brown samples and put them over dusty drum samples and kick basses , they can tweak a modern day aaliyah track to fit the current sound. its all in the producer and it doesnt take an expert but you need to. 1 have understanding of the music you sampling. 2 have a skillset to match your current sound with a sound from past years , if its all about being mainstream and catchy then samples aint the way but if you on another route you gotta be able to do what others arent thinking about or doing and do it your way
