Just saying "white is winning" is not enough if you can't really show where is a win. Agad at least shows it up to a position where you can see the win. For example position r1b1k1n1/6QR/p2bq1n1/3p1p2/8/2N2P2/PPP5/2KR4 w - - 1 5. It happens after white queen checks on g7 and king moves to e8. Mato stops at Qg7+ and says "white is winning here". Engine at depth 37 suggests N:d5 with +0.3 for white. It doesn't look like a win. Maybe there some stronger moves at depth 50, but I can't do it on my PC, so I can't see where it is winning and how and this is rather frustrating. And in a position 1rb2k2/R7/p1Bb2nn/3p1p2/8/2N2P2/PPP5/2K4R b - - 1 1 Mato suggests Rh1 and white is winning. Engine gives evaluation 0.0 (Depth 46 - I let the PC think for a while) and suggests black answer with Bc5 and so on. I am not that good as Stockfish at depth 40+. So when someone says "white is winning" and doesn't show the line to the end I can't imagine how exactly would it work. And even with Stockfish i can't find a win at the depth that I can get in reasonable time. P.S. Definitely needs a revisit.

I like that this game isn't a gradual oscillation of decreasing material on both sides while the board slowly takes a clear direction towards who's in what position. It seems to me that Tal did have the initiative here for the most part, but this match has so many twists and it feels dynamic and .. alive. I love it, so creativeeee!

At 3:20 black plays (algebraic) E5 - G6 which I think relieves a lot of pressure and gives black a 1/2 move. If white brings his white bishop up to harass the knight, black doesn’t have to address that immediately as a recapture of the bishop creates a flight square (f7).

I was thinking, instead of Qg6, Move the Knight to block the bishop, IF pawn takes the knight, then your pawn can retake and the white bishop is pinned to its queen by black rook and black queen has time to make an escape square if white doesn't force the queen exchange. I know you lose a knight, but this whole line was to show why capturing with the queen is bad, still the most accurate moves in the position should be the ones consider in order to refute it.

Koblencs had the same idea as Geller-Euwe 1953 in Zurich. He thought of the importance of trying to keep the queen out of play and getting chances for counterplay in the future. In his book 'Study Chess with Tal: Chess Tactics from the Grandmaster", he discussed his ideas during this game. In Koblencs' own words: ‘Now we should like to discuss a problem which has much to teach every practising player. As was correctly observed at the time, Black should simply play 22 … e7, but quite frankly, I did not think about this move - In a flash, the game Geller-Euwe, Zurich 1953, came to mind. Our brains work economically under such circumstances, so I did not remember every minute detail of the game, but rather the basic idea, which was to lure the opposing queen into one’s own camp and immobilise her or to divert her from the main scene of action... To come back to the game, I still do not regret that I neglected to take the “more sensible” way (22 … e7). The following highly interesting duel is yet more evidence of the inexhaustible beauty of the art of chess.’ From this point of view, it might have seemed to be a blunder under close analysis, since Tal definitely won the game. But it was rather due to Tal's beautiful combinations and extreme complications that he made afterwards that won him the game rather than Koblencs' Ng8 move. In anyway, it might've been really a blunder and Ke7 would've been better, but the reason that Tal got in to Koblencs' head is false. Reference: Tal, Mikhail. It's only $7.99. I have the kindle edition :) It's an excellent book! Each chapter contains tactical maneuvers employed by Tal himself, and there are close commentaries(positional evaluation and possible variations) on critical positions. The only problem is if you're not used to reading chess annotations, you'll have to stop once in a while to firmly grasp the analyses.

PLaying g6 immediately has an even more in depth reason alonng with a faster attack. the reason is to create the weakness in the safety of the king by creating weakness in the pawn structure. koblents has to take with h7 and then with g6 to avoid worsening his king safety. We can also see the subtlty in the move Rh1 after Ng6 attacks the rook. All the other other squares open up counter play for black. For eg, Rh5 opens a discovered attack on the rook once the Knight is removed from g6. With Rh3 opens anothe discovered attack on the rook after Pe5. All moves have so much more to it then what we saw. Also, Koblents probably defended really well till a point. But to play on the board must have been horrible.

Nxc7 (capturing queen) Rxc7 29. Rxg7+ and then Kf8 doesn't look that bad (don't you think) since 30. Rxc7+ (discovered check with bishop) Nxh6 and it seems black has bishop pair - a fair compensation for being down the exchange...

Finally, at 6:32, why Tal didn't forked the Queen and the King like you demonstrated previously? Black would instantly lose his queen since there is no defense at all in e6. That is: Nxe6+ and then, after Ke7(forced, as e8 is being targeted by bishop), Nxc7 no matter what black does. In fact, after this, not only queen is lost, but black has two knights under threat (one by queen, another by pawn) and King is in e file where he can easily checked by a Rook. Really thanks for choosing this game, Agadmator. Ill look thoroughly on Stockfish.

Yo, 3 years too late. bishopd7 takes rook. Next move for white is always bishop g7 takes pawn. If queen takes bishop, its either mate or free queen in 3. If knight takes queen, its convoluted but black king has very little moves. Sorry i can't speak positions, but if anyone needs, i can explain in detail.

Mistake is... 25. Bxb5 I think actually loses for white after... 25. ... Ng6 26. Nd4 Rf7! And now here white has just no way to prevent losing his trapped queen and therefore - the game...
