I saw Eric Burdon and War in concert in the summer of 1970. It was one of the very best concerts I have been to. The band was fantastic.

Eric Burdon hooked up with keyboardist Brian Auger in the early 90s, they put out a double live album in 1993. Their band was called, 'Eric Burdon Brian Auger Band'. The album is titled, 'Access All Areas Live'. The album was never released in the U.S. I was able to track it down, and buy the album a few months ago, and it's so amazing. I think the vocals by Eric on this album are the best he ever did. The album has cover songs, and songs by the Animals. The cover songs are extended, and amazing, and has the best, and also extended, versions of the Animals songs that Eric ever did on any recordings. The album also has the cover of 'Tobacco Road' and is even way better then this version (Yes it really is). This is my favorite Eric Burdon album of all time.

Animals influenced many hard rock bands that followed and War music had it’s on thing going on. So glad you are getting into this material. I consider this classic rock as I do all the aamazing soft rock groups of the 70’s.

No Eric didn’t retire. He went with several other bands doing gigs all over Europe and the US also. His last concert that I know of was 2019. He is now 80 years old. Of course his voice changed over the years, but always enjoyable!

Cutting edge in 71. The Stones did Can't you hear me knocking and I think they were both great precursors to the classic soul / funk / fusion classics of the following few years. Mind you, some visionaries like Curtis Mayfield had a couple of years on them!

“WAR” is considered “Fusion “, but they had many hits on not only R&B, but Rock stations. There was a category of radio stations called “Album Rock “. They would play whole albums. There were a lot of bands that were making albums for this, with long tracks, sometimes whole sides of the album. War had some Iconic songs. WAR tackled issues of racism, Gangs, poverty, hunger, crime….. *” Eric was having issues from his record label, and he didn’t want us to be part of the chaos and the red tape , and bailed on us on a good note, and gave us his blessing. This is the kind of group that you want to go out dancing... no 2 min. songs! The ideal concert setting for them would be a huge dance floor. I prefer bands that can jam. I am falling way behind in keeping present with your reactions with both channels. Not a complaint because I love sitting with you and learning all the history and meaning. I just listened to most of these songs for the first time decades ago. Anyways I just wanted to let you know I’m trying to keep up.

There was plenty going on with Eric during this time. Still doing drugs, constant touring, a wife and kid at home, a record contract he was having trouble getting out of. This video is from 1970 or 71, but it would be about '72 or '73 when all this happened. Dude was heading for a crash and it wouldn't be the first time.

The young Eric Burdon was great with the Animals but really took off when he teamed up with War ! Their version of Tabacco Road is amazing only out done by..... Edgar & Johnny Winters jaw dropping version ! 🎹☺🎷🎙 That video..... Edgar & Johnny Winter playing Tobacco Road ( live ) ( is a must watch for every music fan.... especially blues lovers ✌😎 ) Now back to Eric Burdon & War..... Great performance with tabacco Road My other favorite of course is.... Spill That Wine ! Ok back to the performance..... These guys can really jam ✌😎
