It's just meant to make you smile and tap your foot, man, they don't think they're writing Beethoven's 5th. They even call themselves "party metal" so just take a deep breath and enjoy it. ;-) Cheers from Florida.

I do have the same criticism in general about the pop/rock sections in metalcore songs. They often basically turn into a different band for a bit. This song is fun though.
@montanus777

i don't agree that it's mainly targeting reaction channels, but it mainly targets a german audience (and reaction channels are hardly a thing in germany). 1) almost all germans will recognize the theme from scooter's "maria (i like it loud)", while most non-germans (esp. non-europeans) won't. (and that's btw also the reason why they needed the 'trancy part' to be seperated from the metal parts; if they would have mixed them too much, many listeners probably wouldn't have noticed the 'maria-theme'.) also the title "hypa hypa" is a tribute to scooter's "hyper hyper". and germans have a love-hate-relationship to scooter. on the one hand they are cringy as fuck, but then a again some of their songs are also extremely catchy, so that even 'devoted techno-haters' might end up singing along (or dancing) to scooter songs after having a few drinks. 2) also they used some german youtubers for the dance part, that many germans will recognize, while non-germans won't. and these german youtubers of course have a (mainly) german audience and hence wil draw german fans to the band. so, i'm pretty sure they weren't thinking about international reaction channels (too much), but of germans instead. after all the chances for a german band to be discovered by non-german youtubers are extremely low (esp. so short after a video release). so, i'm going out on a limb here and say the reaction channels were basically just a lucky coincidence.
@CriticalReactions

You have a more complete perspective on this with more context around the song so you're probably correct. I could also have been a little more general in my deduction as well. It's not so much that they targeted reaction channels that they created something that just happens to be perfect for reaction channels. I imagine if international viral music like What Does the Fox Say and Gangnam Style had come out now that they would have millions of reactions to them as well because of the absurdity of the music videos and the catchiness of the music. That isn't in any way a discredit to any of the songs mentioned so far, just an observation about which types of music videos get the biggest reactions and, thus, views.

"Background information": Actually, this is a parody/cover of the song "Hyper Hyper" by the band Scooter. Just like Eskimo Callboy they are from Germany.
@Smido83
@Smido83 3 жыл бұрын
Not quite right... Its more of a homage. They actualy asked Scooter for a cameo, cause they use the Maria beat throughout the song. If anything its a cover of that song, not Hyper Hyper.

Nice analysis on the video. As some people have already said, the whole thing kind of a parody and it's being it on multiple levels. The band has recently changed singers, so this is the first album featuring him. What -according to a interview in german I saw earlier- the band did, was releasing the one song from the album first, that didn't take it itself serious first due to the circumstances we have right now. As say said: In times of corvid-19, do people want or need to see a video first, that's more serious. Or didn't we all need something to laugh at. What I think makes it different for non-europeans (or more specificly non-Germans) to deconstruct the different layers of parody in the video, is the fact that some of the memes are very EU centric. 1. Hypa Hypa itself is kind of a pun on Scooters (Germanys most successful techno band) Hyper Hyper song...which was released 26(!) years ago...mid nineties 2. The "doep doep doep" electronic parts from the car scenes are yet another scooter pun (Maria, I like it loud...released 2003) 3. There is some parody of nineties boy bands in the middle of the song 4. The mullet+track suit look is both a parody on 80ties fashion, but also kind of reminescent of a dutch comedy series that was also quite popular in Germany (New Kids)... 5. Which brings us back to point on, because the music features in that series+movie was... techno/hardcore music...for the German adaption of the music Scooter was featured

I think the video is supposed to be a joke and parody, the song however is a more “fun” song than a joke or parody. A lot of their stuff sounds like this and when you watch them live you can see they are just having fun. Essentially I believe they write their songs to have fun with live, and only the video was meant to be a joke.

Eskimo Callboy has been somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine for many years, and even as someone who likes them, I'm amazed you managed to talk about this song for nearly 20 minutes! Shock value in every sense of the term has been pretty central to their music for most of their career, so this is fairly representative of their style. That said, they do have their most interesting stuff when they more fully commit stylistically to one side or the other--"Back in the Bizz" has heavy guitars and vocals almost all the way through, but evokes a bit of a crunk/rap feel with the delivery and underlying elements, and "Hate/Love" is almost a straight up pop song with guitars and screams layered in.

I can't rag on these guys too hard because I've been jamming this song pretty regularly since it came out, but this genre is kind of zombiefied at this point, it just won't die. The heyday was a decade ago when scene was hip and everyone was mixing genres to see what the next big thing was. Some bands didn't make it out of the scene, and you can find a hundred dead projects with a similar sound and identical music videos starting just before the end of the oughts. Attack Attack!, thebunny thebear, We Butter The Bread With Butter, Attila, some of my personal favorites like Abandon All Ships, The Word Alive, Blessed By A Broken Heart, all did it to varying degrees of success, but in the end any band that mixed the two kind of just.. fell apart. The bands that survived almost invariably took a left turn into another genre. Breathe Carolina became dance-pop, Enter Shikari became experimental socially conscious indie. I know you're a fan of Sonny-era From First To Last, but Throne to the Wolves is easily my favorite of theirs and it explores some similar sounds. By far the most dramatic transformation is Oceana though. I recommend listening to three songs: The Family Disease, to see where they started; Barracuda, Capital of the World to see when they decided they were done with the old sound; then listen to 17 New Years or Moona Festival by Polyenso, the band that they rebranded as when they decided to switch genres to Radiohead-esque indie. songs like Hypa Hypa, anything by The Browning etc. just feel like attempts to recapture that era, they don't feel genuine even when done well. It's a sound that's so far dead that fans will hold onto any new piece of it just to have more, and I wish that wasn't the case because it leads to stagnation.

By far the best thing about this song is the video, which is really funny and nails that ultra-cheesy 80s look/style. Musically this is actually called electronicore, which is (as you can probably guess) a hybrid of metalcore and electronic pop. Not something I'd bother to listen to, but at least it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Well, the boys are mixing electronics to their metalcore for one decade now :) But.. I disagree that this is designed as a reaction video to gain new fans. Actually it is the other way round, it was the first video with their new lead singer after the old one left. And when the new singer was revealed, not everyone thought he'd fit in, so their first release had to be over the top, had to be on the fun side, with a video that fits this spirit. Otherwise it would have been a pretty hard start for the new member. Maybe with the risk of losing old fans. So, imo more to hold the old fans than to gain new ones... That this specific video went viral in the reaction scene was a big plus though, and yes it gained attention of people that never heard of the band before (which again is in the game for a decade now, with many many other videos that would be perfect for reaction channels, yet still had not too many reactions on them.. At least, before the Hypa Hypa Hype started). So, yes, the video (and song) is quite perfect for reactions, especially from people that do not know them, but I dought this was their intention, as one must suppose then this had to be true with all their other parody songs/videos, but obviously this strategy would have failed every previous time. And, for taking theirselves not too seriously and making quite some parody songs they faced quite some rejection or 'hate' from others, yet still they stayed true to their stuff (well, most of the time). This imo is quite a bit remarkable. Not that I want to change your opinion on the music, as everyone has the right to have his/her own, but shedding some light on some facts may help understanding. The dance group at the end (which obviously wasn't your favorite part xD ) is a bunch of German youtubers (who are fans of the band as well), with the biggest of them being HandOfBlood with over 1.9 mio subs on his main channel alone. They made a fun 'dance video' to this song as the 200k subscriber special of the guy in the middle. And the band edited parts of that in their actual music video.

What? Not at all. Metalcore was a streamlined verison of melodic death metal (At the Gates's Slaughter of the Soul, Dark Tranquility's The Gallery, and In Flames's The Jester's Race were the key influences), that replaced DM vocals with hardcore "shout" vocals. Nu-metal started with Korn's downtuned, uber-heavy rhythmic style, that also ended up mixing with hip-hop and a few other genres. As simple as metalcore is, it still tends to be more complex than nu-metal, which is usually the easiest form of metal to play. The only "influence" of NM I hear on MC is the breakdowns, other than that they tend to have very different influences and lineages.

So I tend to not like metal like this. It never feels like a "Mix" of the two styles of music. It feels like this constant "back and forth" between the two which, for me, is lazy song writing. I would rather them merge the two Styles skillfully than have "this part is heavy" and "this part is techno/pop". Same for BMTH. Plus I always think of what is going to be done live. Most groups like this never have the electronic parts played live. They're always tracked. To each there own though! For those of you who enjoy this stuff, go for it! Whatever makes ya happy! Bryan, I'd like you to check out an old favorite of mine who my band had the pleasure of opening up for many times: "Genghis Tron". They went on hiatus back in the early 2000's but are back! Genghis Tron is what I like to call "electro-grind". The pull from grind core and electronic elements. They consist of three members. A guitarist, a keyboardist, and a vocalist who also does all the drum machines. Super amazing stuff. Check out the song "White Walls"! Edit: I wrote this before I heard your thoughts lol. Oops.
