Once an American girl asked me why there are so many different languages in Europe. As a German how to answer this highly intelligent question? Finally i said 'The reason for so many different languages in Europe is, we lost WW II.' You know how she reacted? 'Ooh, i'm so sorry for you guys.' This discovers everything about general knowledge in USA.

Here's my perspective on knowledge. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with not knowing something. We all started out life knowing absolutely nothing about ANYTHING. The problem, IMO, is when you are an adult and you don't KNOW that you don't know something. There are tons of things I don't know, but you won't see me thinking I know things that I don't. What I can't understand (and can't respect) is when someone assumes something and then just assumes that they are right. That's far worse than a simple lack of knowledge. Some people seem to have a delusional belief that they can't be wrong about something and that's why they'll say things like, "Oh right, Belgium. That's in South America." A more reasonable person would say, "I'm sorry, I don't know much about Belgium. Is that one of the countries in South America or Europe?"

Long time viewer here! Love you videos and dedication! As someone who learned all 50 States, then all countries, then all flags and finally all capitals, it really surprised me on how quick you were. I have a slight feeling that you didn't went completely blind into this seeing you Netherlands guess being that quick and most of the time instantly hovering to the correct area. To my eye, I was never good at geography but now learning mountains, rivers and major cities, I still can't shake the feeling that you did a few test runs. Much love for you dedication. Even if you practiced, it would show how you grow as a person. It's not just for your channel, it's for life. Kind regards!

6:47 my mum and I went on a short beach vacation to Bulgaria one summer (we're from Germany) and we spent about half our trip rescuing a stray cat at the hotel 😂 I snuck him up into the bathroom to secure him while we waited for someone from a local rescue to arrive 🤣🤣 (It took forever to find that contact, but our hotel was in an area that doesn't really have any permanent residents, so he never would have survived the winter and Jasper was so adorable and kept climbing on my lap and purring, such a sweet kitty 😻)

I'd say the only ones you didn't know and should have had an idea about were Bulgaria and Slovakia, the latter particularly because you knew where the Czech Republic was, and the two countries together used to be Czechoslovakia. Some tips… for Kosovo the shape of the country is on the flag, like cyprus. In the past some countries split like Austria-Hungary into Austria and Hungary and Czechoslovakia split into Czechia and Slovakia but the way these countries sit on the map it works that the country first in the old name is the country on the left and the last name is the one on the right. The three Baltic countries (opposite side of sea to Finland) you can memorise as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in that order of countries top to bottom. Monaco, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Vatican City, Malta and Andorra are the small, appear as dots, countries. North Macedonia used to be part of the Macedonia region in Greece so its the country north of Greece.

30 year old from the UK here, I have heard of and can pronounce (in an English speaking way) all of these countries, however even I wasn't taught where all of these are in school, there was a map on the classroom wall but it was never fully studied in this much detail, we learned as lists which countries are in each continent so I know which are in Europe, Asia, etc, but exactly where is tough with some of these smaller counties, don't be hard on yourself

As a 70 year old Brit, with a good general knowledge, I had to learn about all the Eastern European countries since the break up of the USSR. I had not a clue. I use the online puzzles. I've done it for the African countries, which I find difficult and for the American States,. with state capitals. I found I only had a vague idea about where the States were, you know N,S, E,W, but these puzzles increase the accuracy.
@cinoeye5 ай бұрын
Did you ever learn the difference between Eastern Europe and South Eastern Europe?
@Pidalin5 ай бұрын
You should know those eastern countries at least from History lessons, Soviet Block existed only for like 40 years, that's not such a long time to forget that these countries existed. We still remember Austria-Hungary and Prussia and that's gone for more than 100 years and WWI literally started after Serbs did some mess, so you must at least know that these countries existed. But exactly locate them is tricky even for people here in Czechia, most of us know maybe Croatia because everyone is going there for vacation, but rest of Balkan is more like random. Countries which were not part of USSR or Yugoslavia are ofcourse easier, because these were on map even between 1945-1989. I learned about Baltic countries just few years ago when I visited Latvia, I didn't know anything about them before. But it's not only about Balkan, even correcly guess which one is Belgium and which Netherlands can be hard for some people, I can select it correctly because I know that people in Netherlands will all die after glaciers will melt. 😀 Most of people would never guess there Luxembourg is even when we were ruled by Luxembourgs and it's considered our golden age, Luxembourg Emperors had Czech wives and still, people here don't know where that country is.

Come on Ryan, Kosovo has the shape of the country on the flag. As a tip: benelux: Belgium-Netherlands-Luxemburg, they sit together. And if you're somewhat interested in languages: Estnish and Finnish are are related languages. And Lithuania and Poland used to be a commonwealth, that leaves Latvia as the one in the middle. But you did well, I wouldn't do any better with US states. And don't worry, many of us won't do better with eastern europe.

Actually, I think you did very well. Since World War II there have been so many wars between some mid-European countries that even I've lost count of how many "new?" countries there are now. Apart from the very well-known countries, in this area just looking at a map I can obviously find France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany Poland, Norway, Denmark. Sweden, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania those last 3 haven't moved or been split up or renamed, but Yugoslavia & Czechoslovakia don't exist anymore. I know where Belgium & The Netherlands are too. I also almost yelled "Where?" like you did a couple of times. Also when you shouted out loud at a lot of those names, I knew the names because they were around when I was a kid. We had all heard of Bohemia (The Bohemian set that used to meet in London all artsy & crafts, writers, actors, poets etc). A lot of those names seemed like fairy tale names or even made-up names when I was young. The War: Kosovo forces were made up of Kosovons & Albanians and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia comprising Serbia & Montenegro & it only ended when NATO started bombing Yugoslavia making them retreat. NATO forces were sent in as peacekeepers.I had no idea that a lot of Kosovons & Albanians were Muslim. That's because Albania was once a port of the Ottorman Empire and they gradually moved North, therefore, living under the laws of Kosovo Did you know that NATO still keeps a small peacekeeping force made up of soldiers from 27 different countries to patrol along the Kosovo/Serbian border as tensions between the 2 counties are still very high. I'm sure that if the NATO soldiers left there would be another bloodbath, so for the time being (until they stop hating each other (yeah? kook at Iran/Afghanistan & the West) it's best to keep the soldiers there.
