What I love about Destiny 2's soundtracks is how well they use persistent motifs across tracks and albums. For instance, there's a motif mixed in many songs involving final bosses or vital story moments that goes some variation of "D#, A#, F#, G#, A#, G#, F D#, A#, F#, G#, A#, G#, C#" (heard here: 3:30-4:10 ) that symbolizes your character and their most triumphant struggles specifically. It has such an impact when you're actually in game and it feels like the music itself is subconsciously reminding you "Hey, remember every time you beat impossible odds? You can do this!"

One of my favourite recent themes from the Witch Queen expansion has got to be Rhulk’s theme (don’t remember the actual name) and Aberrant Path (OST 3). I would love to see a video covering those two songs. Of the two, however, Rhulk’s theme stands out to me as his mechanics and overall fight during gameplay are very progressive and aggressive: he forces you to push through his defences in order to reach his arena. During this initial “push” phase, the music is very Darkness-themed, with deep resounding brass instruments and heavy-handed percussion. As soon as you reach his second phase, the tempo picks up and starts to sound slightly more uplifting, as if you are at a stalemate with him. Rhulk in turn becomes more aggressive and begins to nonchalantly attack your team with charges and kicks. Then, once you get to the point where he shifts into his berserker phase and allows you to do damage, the brass section is no longer dark and resounding, but rather it is now uplifting and triumphant, with a choir to back it up. As soon as the damage phase finishes, it reverts back to Darkness theme. I just absolutely adore how they fit the “Rise from the Deep, or drown in it” theme into the music itself, while also having it fit flawlessly with the boss fight itself.

Love this track, up there with the First Disciple and Eyes Up as the best battle music in the game. Just a note: The editor of the video you reacted to actually made a weird cut in the first part of the song, heard clearly at 02:05 in this video. The first part of the battle theme is supposed to go on for a good two-and-a-half minutes longer before transitioning (being about four minutes long before looping), but here we have it fade into a brief repeat back to the beginning of the first part before transitioning. You can clearly hear the backing strings (I believe they are called, I don't know the names/terminology very well :P) come back like they are supposed to only to immediately fade out weirdly.

To correct as you were told incorrect information, the person telling you about the three different weeks is regarding something entirely different.(Related to the effects of completing the raid, but has no relation to this track) HOWEVER, the changes in this piece occur as there's different phases to this raid encounter. You start out with a drop down where players go into two different rooms on the base floor. You then fight for about a couple minutes before moving to a second floor and repeating the same things. The third floor comes a couple minutes after as well, which is when the whole team gets back together and you have a showdown with the boss for quite sometime before she retreats and you go to head back down to the base floor, in which you shoot weak spots on her. Once you get to a certain % of the boss's health, you're teleported into a realm in which you need to escape and then you reappear facing the boss who now has her eyes destroyed and 'bleeding', this is her final stand and where the team kills her and then destroys her heart. As you go further into the fight, the music proceeds to get more and more intense. In fact the story behind the raid is that the boss WANTS you to kill her to fulfill a wish of an antagonistic character, so we're being tricked into unleashing something terrible. So the tracks in the raid attempt to evoke heroism, intensity, and danger when there truly isn't any. I think they excel in that as they are adrenaline pumping and immensely intense with a sense of haste.

A little difficult to track exactly where transitions happen in the fight, but my best guess, as you'll hear sections multiple times over and over before the triggers in the fight to move to the next part. Trying to help give context to some of what you noticed, as it can be confusing/jumpy due to different sections triggering when you hit different areas of the fight, building and lowering intensity based on whichever portion of the fight are you in. So, at 0:30, when you mention it sounding like it was supposed to transition, it's not. The whole raid is being built up to the point of meeting Riven, the wish dragon, an "Ahamkara", now "Taken" and corrupted. When the encounter begins, everyone stands on separate platforms, and the floor drops from everyone, and you slowly fall, in almost complete silence except for the clunks of the mechanical gates you fall through opening and closing, and the loud breathing of Riven herself, into a dark void, staring at Riven for the first time, watching all of you. The soundtrack begins as soon as you hit the ground, and must start running to your separate rooms to begin the fight. There is no buildup, but it's a very tense moment that feels almost surreal the first time you ever experience it, and the music starts so suddenly and harshly because of your need to immediately move as soon as soon as you hit the ground. At 3:58, that is the pattern that begins to play when all players have grouped up again (they are split 3 on each side) at the top of the tower, with everyone regrouped, fighting Riven as one. The part immediately after, when it's slowed down, is during you falling slowly back down the tower, shooting weak spots on Riven, and launching back into a repeat of the initial steps. At 5:32, the Voice you're talking about is supposed to be Riven herself, crying out in pain, seeking for the Guardians (players) to grant her 1 final wish, and end her suffering, but she can't control herself, so she's forced to fight you. At 6:28, the "mean" part is the part that loops when Riven drags you into her "Ascendant Realm" once she hits about 10% health remaining, a realm that only the most powerful beings in the universe can access. You take constant damage, with Taken enemies trying to attack you, while you race against the clock (in a manner of speaking) to get to the portal to escape. At 6:49, that is what plays when you managed to escape the Ascendant Realm, and Riven appears, one final time, and it's a race for the Guardians to finish her off, before she finishes charging and instakill attack. Once she's dead, you are forced to race inside her dead body, and destroy the Taken Rift that had taken over her heart. Once that's destroyed, that last bit plays as the rift explodes, her corrupted heart falling onto the ground. A good song to listen to for this would be the Queenswalk encounter music. It's the final encounter in the same Raid, where you have to carry Riven's heart as a sort of marathon dash, and get the heart to get cleansed of the Taken corruption to save Riven's soul. It has no real music triggers, as it's a strict race against time, as the heart will drag whoever carries the heart for too long into itself, to face an onslaught of Taken enemies. Cool detail is that while inside the heart, you can see the Guardian's hands carrying the heart in the sky. If all Guardians take too long, and get dragged into the heart, the encounter is failed, and restarts.

One of the reasons for the sudden transitions in a lot of Destiny music, especially raid boss music, is that the music is triggered by what's actually happening in the game, depending on what the players are doing. So, if you get the boss to half health or something, the music might suddenly transition to reflect a "damage phase". Another good example is when the raid boss music suddenly changes to a more "heroic" leitmotif (usually the Guardian theme) -- that's often when the last damage phase begins, often when the boss is very low health, and everyone is just pumping lead into it.

The music doesn't change according to the three week Curse cycle; that's the location's BGM itself. First, Riven is an Ahamkara, a "wish dragon." She is a creature who feeds on desire and becomes stronger as she grants wishes. The Dreaming City, where she is imprisoned, was built from a bare asteroid with Riven's magic, which is why she's so powerful. Due to this, she was imprisoned deep in a vault there. However, as of the raid, she is also Taken--infected by Darkness. The encounter with Riven is a long and complex battle in which the players use the magic of the Dreaming City to chase Riven between dimensions, eventually luring her into the open to make her vulnerable. The parts that happen in the shadowy Ascendant Plane are the ones with the distorted instruments. The heroic leitmotif is the Guardian's theme, "Inner Light," and it often plays in the boss themes during the damage phase, when the bosses are vulnerable.

I actually asked my sister about this track! She knows how to play a ton of different string instruments, this is what her guess was about it: "I would say the first instance, my guess is done with the bow,not vibrato, and accenting the notes really quickly. I would imagine it would be long bow strokes with pressure applied sharply on and off quickly. It's a very cool effect I can't say I've heard it either The second spot at [not in this edit >:(] sounds to me like very quick accented notes with the bow changing direction after each note, probably near the base of the bow because of the crunchyness you hear especially at the beginning of the notes. This tecnique would also be done with the bow hand, unlike vibrato. Neat soundtrack, is it a new one?" On an unrelated note I don't know why this was the requested version cause this edit of the song is not the best

Hi I requested this piece, I chose this specific edit since it has the entirety of the fight in a version thats under 19 minutes long with needless looping. There used to be cleaner edits but they got nuked in the false copyright strikes so this is what we were left with.

@friendlyelites 2 жыл бұрын
Half of this track is unpublished in the official soundtrack, Forsaken has about 35 unofficial tracks that aren't in the soundtrack for spoiler reasons as many of them didn't even appear in-game for 3-5 weeks after the expansion and soundtrack released. This is the Corrupted version of Keep of Voices that only plays during Riven's fight and a few sporadic story missions. Every single Dreaming City related track has 3 versions, the standard version is typically the soundtrack version and that can only play during the first cycle of the curse during week 1, the Corrupted versions will play during weeks 2 and 3, and the Ascendant versions will play whenever you transition to the Ascendant realm in the City. The track that many people often refer to as the Vault theme is actually an excerpt of a corrupted version of Watchtower. The corrupted versions of the tracks drop the choir completely, layer synths over the strings, and add in Guitars and Drums. The Ascendant versions completely drop the brass and strings and replace them with synths while toning up the percussion.

Destiny has lots of types of music that’s all pretty great. You should listen to some of the Cabal or Vex themes since they have a general drums of war or electronic theme compared to what you’ve covered on the channel. Ignovun chosen of Caiatl is a great track that takes place to a literal gladiator fight inside a massive tank. The Sanctified Mind is a great track that fits the theme of an overgrown garden inhabited by time traveling robots.

As someone who plays this game religiously, I've put context into a few of these pieces before in the past, so I'll do this again. This is the boss theme for the final boss of the Last Wish raid. Riven, the last Ahamkara; dragon-like shapeshifters of immense power and cunning that have the ability to transform wishes into reality and feed off of them as well. The Ahamkara were exterminated in what became known as the Great Hunt, and Riven is the last of her kind. She has been Taken, effectively stripped of (most) of her free will and bound to the will of another. That other entity could very easily abuse Riven's power over wishes, and as such she became a immensely grave threat to the universe. We, the Guardians, have been tasked with putting an end to her and fetching her heart. However, Ahamkara transcend death, and killing her is exactly what Riven _wanted_ us to do. In her dying throes, she cast a curse that is still affecting us to this day. She is also responsible for many other things, such as the creation of the Scorn, and the corruption of Uldren Sov, an event that led to the death of Cayde-6, one of the Vanguard(basically humanity's government) leaders. So yeah, the fight against Riven is hugely important narrative-wise, and with the Ahamkara's penchant to transcend death, it's likely we may see more of her. I'd also check out Shell of What Was, as it's the theme that plays during the Queenswalk, the encounter just after Riven and one of the most intense things I've ever done in Destiny.

These fan mixes are honestly kinda weird sometimes. Should check the official versions, not sure if Riven's main fight theme got a release. (though not like official releases don't have some dodgy moments as well) Think "Keep of Voices" has a bit of it, and it gives a bit better feeling of how the motif leads to what it is in this version.
