the game is too story based for the trial to include more current content. part of the appeal of the game is the characters you grow attached to as you play through the game, a trial would be pretty much worthless if it just threw you into current content with no context of who the main npcs are, why they travel with you, and why they are so important. It would be bland and confusing. Its like picking up a book series but starting with the last book, you'll have no idea where you are.

Also the trailer was something else. Not just the music or visuals but also the story part of it. I won't say anything but it completely messed up idea of what was coming XD I just finished SHB yesterday btw XD. And you are sooooo right. The feeling I have now, after 600 hours in the game, its like real life. You look back at the insignificant moments in life and feel thankful and proud for having done those now. At the time you felt like it was a chore. Now I'm the same in the game. I'm looking back at all the more insignificant parts of walking from quest to quest and think "but I did that. I basically lived in this world and did that myself. I was the one to send message X to person A." and sometimes those people come back 300 hours later XD
@JB-ci8fc3 жыл бұрын
I'd say your interpretation about the lyrics is mostly accurate, though you would admittedly need more context to understand the full meaning behind them. The other parts of the lyrics also have meaning behind them as well, I'm actually a bit surprised that you didn't delve on those. Also, a fun little fact: the string section is a remix of a track from FF4 called Eternal Wind, so you're not wrong about it being like a Final Fantasy song.

The part with the violin that you said sounded very Final Fantasy is actually an orchestral rendition of the Final Fantasy 3 track "Eternal Winds" by Nobuo Uematsu. That's probably why it sounds so traditionally FF :)
@SeralyneYT3 жыл бұрын
The main theme of the expansion can essentially be boiled down into: "Light, Dark, it doesn't matter. What matters is how you use it". It's about the duality between the two, not to mentoin the balance. It kind of holds a 3-way shared main theme (officially 2 way) of the expansion. There's this and "Tomorrow and Tomorrow", which takes the solo singer from the beginning and simply runs with it. The premise of Shadowbringers essentially revolves around the player character (The Warrior of Light) needing to become the Warrior of Darkness. I would honestly have preferred if you had used the trailer version of the song, even though it has dialogue, because it links a lot more of it together. I would personally add "Neath Dark Waters" as a third unofficial main theme (the specific variation of that track, known as "To The Edge"), given the duality between Light and Darkness, given how closely it ties into the main antagonist of the overall story-arc since the beginning of the game. As for the violin solo, this was essentially a cover embedded into the song. It was Final Fantasy 3's overworld theme, "Eternal Wind". The main significance here is that the plotline revolves around the Crystal Tower, which was originally introduced in that game.

They were good books, but obviously amateurish. Then came the steady progression in quality throughout the Mistborn series, and you can see how the quality of his writing started up explode among the fanbase. Now people deride Elantris and Warbreaker as bad, even though they were good though that he was able to keep writing, but everyone universally agrees that compared to Mistborn and The Stormlight Archives, yeah they're objectively not as good, but they didn't make them BAD books, just easily outshone by what came after. I wouldn't put it past JRPGs to have that kind of lore.

To anyone who liked this song, I'd encourage you to jump into the FFXIV soundtrack as a whole. Even the ambient songs are phenomenal. Here's a couple of tracks I can recommend (though note, many of the videos contain spoilers, so if you plan to play, don't actually watch the videos, just listen). *NOTE:* Tracks separated with "/" are essentially all parts of the same scenario, usually a boss fight. They are different tracks, but designed to trigger during different phases, so I recommend listening to them one after the other: • Dragonsong • Answers (End of an Era/Reprise Version) • Heavensward • Crimson Sunset • Neath Dark Waters • Fallen Angel • Thunder Rolls • Thunder Rolls (Eden Ramuh Version) • Thunder Rolls (Pulse Remix) • Locus • Rise • Rise (Pulse Remix) • Endwalker (Short Theme - the full version hasn't been released yet) • A Long Fall (PRIMALS Version) • To The Edge • Sunrise • Sunrise (Pulse Remix) • Equilibrium • Unbending Steel • What Angels Wake Me • Footsteps in the Snow/Oblivion • Return to Oblivion • Torn from the Heavens • Shadows Withal • The Queen Awakens • Thordan's Reign • Moebius (Orchestral Version) • Triumph • Civilizations • Nightbloom/Lunacy/Wayward Daughter • Insanity • Insatiable There's a lot more, but those listed constitute some of my absolute favourites.

A lot of the lyrics are basically coded, one could say. Aside from the lore bombs Shadowbringers brings, there is a portion of the game where a verse or two is spent indirectly referencing the other expansion: "Forged in fury, tempered in ice" for example refers to Ishgard from Heavensward, which is located to the frigid north and worships Halone, the Fury.

Pretty sure you play the old free trial. Current free trial is up to level 60 with the content include the first expansion. That could be hundreds of hours worth of free content and most people got hooked at the end of Heavensward. The male vocal is Jason Charles Miller. I'm sure I don't have to describe him. The female vocal is Susan Calloway who's safe to say that she's the main vocalist of FFXIV. The violin solo part is the old FFIII music called Eternal Wind.

I am once again amazed at how much you correctly predicted based on lyrics alone. That was actually three songs smooshed together for the trailer. The song with the lyrics is Who Brings Shadow and it's an interesting question because while our character serves light and the enemy serves darkness, this expansion a flood of light corrupted a world threatening to destroy it, so we brought darkness back to their world to save them. And that theme extends to the conflict because *SPOILERS* the goddess of light broke the world into 14 pieces and our species was created from that act, but the guy we're fighting, his species was destroyed by that act, so he's trying to put the world back together to restore his species and we're trying to stop him because it would require killing us to get his people's parts back because that's what we're made of. So it begs the question who is the good guy here, he's attempting to create a world without suffering or sorrow and we're trying to stop him because it would mean our extinction. It's more like a real life conflict where no one is totally in the right or totally in the wrong and there isn't really a way to make everyone happy. I think part of the lack of threat in the song is we don't want to fight this guy, we know in his position we'd be trying to save our species too. But we also can't let him kill millions of people and wipe out our species to possibly save his own. He has his duty and we have ours. And I think Who Brings Shadow perfectly encapsulates the feeling of that faceoff.
@barachiel2123 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about not liking the game. The base game "A Realm Reborn" is kind of like the endurance test that weeds out players. You have to just grit and bear it until you get to the first expansion, Heavensward, and suddenly *BOOM* Its like night and fucking day. Part of the reason for this is a change of voice-acting studios, from Los Angeles to London. You basically go from a bunch of anime voice actors treating like this any other cheesy animated series, to a group of up-and-coming British thespians who treat the script like Lord of the Rings. Sadly, I've never considered "just keep playing it gets better" to be a particularly compelling argument to justify it. I personally gave up on the game TWICE before finally making it over that massive hurdel, sometime during the life of the 2nd expansion, Stormblood. Just boosting through it doesn't work, because this isn't a game. Its a bloody book series, and while the first book suuuuuuuuucks, its required reading so the other novels (ie expansions) work, and each expansion builds on the events of the last, so you've got this huge unfolding story. The Shadowbringers expansion works as well as it does because of an almost MCU-style buildup of lore, character arcs, and plot twists. To go back to my Lord of the Rings example, earlier, basically ARR is the Silmarilion, and you HAVE to read it for the Hobbit and the other books to make sense. EDIT: Last edit, I swear. Something most people don't mention is the the song "Shadowbringers", is actually a melding of multiple tracks on the soundtrack. The first bit with the female vocals is "Tomorrow and Tomorrow." The violin section is "Eternal Winds." The bulk of the song is "Who Brings Shadow", one of two tracks that make up the final boss fight of the 5.0 patch. The other track is "Invincible" which is an instrumental symphony version (with choir for vocals).

As far as I know, WOW didn't really had any overarching story for long time and many other MMOs basically have different stories for the main game and expansions so players can give a try to either of them. Final Fantasy doesn't work like that. It's a singular continuous story that gets the player from start, when you're nobody and doing menial jobs like "kill 3 squirrels and 5 mushrooms" and goes up to the paragon level of power where quests are "Hey, go, summon and slay six elemental deities to restore the world". In this case game also heavily develops on previous content, like in your dialogues with characters you can quote lines, said by other characters. And other elements. So jumping to most recent content would be like starting a heavily story-driven TV show from season 1 and half-way in quickly jumping to season 5 without watching all other 3,5 season content. (imagine watching Expanse in that way for all those who watched it) Regarding lyrics breakdown: This was an interesting take and without having any context it does seems logical. It is, in this case, wrong, but it was fun to listen to a theory on what it could be. I will put story (or at least my own abridged breakdown of it up to Shadowbringers) below to spoilers as I find it VERY fascinating and fun. Regarding music - yep, Soken does love his rock, metal, nu metal, classic etc. etc. He even had a bit of a problem with group Powerman 5000 - this song "Fiend" that plays during fight against Sephirot sounds VERY similar to When Worlds Collide. Then there's theme "Figments" which plays in Dohn Mheg dungeon. It's VERY inspired by Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" ballet. This guy can really take what was already there and then repurpose it and add his own fleur to the song. Literally - soundtrack in FFXIV at the beginning is competent and nice, but later it becomes SO much better... Well, like everything with the game. MASSIVE Spoilers ahead, including lore behind Ascians. If you didn't played Shadowbringers and want to play it through, and you get triggered by spoiler material, PLEASE DO NOT READ, I warned you! In the beginning there was one world and one species of powerful beings who could manifest everything from their aether by just thinking about it. They lived in prosperity and their culture was based in benevolence and sharing with one another. People didn't have too much individuality in their style and creations because having something for youself and not sharing was considered a bad behavior. Then world was shattered by a calamity. People from all over the world were affected by awful destruction. Some of the citizens of the city of Amaurot came to solution. They sacrificed half of their population to summon a powerful creature that would save them from destruction. That creature was known as Zodiark. Zodiark did save the world, but he also took people of Amaurot under his control and turned his followers into slaves. Part of people left decided to stop Zodiark and they Summoned their own god, named Hydaelyn. She struck Zodiark down and struck him so hard that she basically split world into 14 pieces - 13 shards and the prime shard, known as The Source. Same happened with most of the population - they, body and soul were split apart. They were split by races, bodies, etc. each with their own imperfections. Only few original people survived and are know in this age as the Ascians. One of these Ascians, known as Emet Selch, found a way to restore world back to what it was. But it required unthinkable thing - destroy a shard world and crate an elemental Catastrophe in the Source. This catastrophe would be known as Umbral Calamity. Currently, world have survived seven Umbral Calamities, one of them was a massive earthquake that shattered continents and destroyed once very powerful technology of Allagan Empire, ending Third Astral Era and a great flood has destroyed unique culture of Mhachi mages, ending Fifth Astral Era. The last Umbral Calamity happened just a few years ago, when Garlean Empire summoned lesser moon Dalamud to fall onto lands of Eorzea, releasing Primal Bahamut that was bound inside of it (That was the Seventh Umbral Calamity we can see in FFXIV A Realm Reborn trailer). This has ended Sixth Astral Era, however, due to events told in the Flames of Truth (A video at the end of Coils of Bahamut Raid), most of the population was saved from awful events and Seventh Umbral Era took only five years and now world lives in the Seventh Astral Era. This lead Emet Selch to orchestrate Eight Umbral Calamity - in the Source he would use a gas named Black Rose that would stop flow of aether in all living beings that would breath it, which would be a terrible catastrophe. At the same time the First Shard would be engulfed in Light, stopping all the aether there. However, a hundred years prior to these events in the First (and several months/years in the Source) a woman named Minfilia became an Oracle of Light and used her powers to save land of the First, known as Norvrandt from the Flood of light that was caused by Warriors of Light. After that a man, who goes by the name "Crystal Exarch" summoned Warrior of Light (Player Character) and his/her friends to the First to help him to stop the Flood of light. At some point, one of mandatory story quests in the FFXIV is a Crystal Tower Raid, that involved young man G'raha Tia uncovering his past with Crystal Tower in the Source and inheriting it. G'raha then seals the tower and himself into it, after saying his gratitude towards Warrior of Light and Cid Garlond who became his most trustworthy friends. During this story we get to know, that in reality, Crystal Tower from the First is, in fact, Crystal Tower from the Source's future. Crystal Exarch is, in fact, G'raha Tia. To live long enough, he merged with Crystal Tower and later, through years after Eight Umbral Calamity he worked with Cid and his children to utilize power of primal Alexander to travel back in time to the past and to the First. His plan was for Warrior of Light to become Warrior of Darkness, absorb the Light of the monsters, known as Sin Eaters in the First and then, absorb that Aether from Warrior of Darkness, flee into interdimensional void and die there. However, this plan was stopped by Emet Selch, who had innate knowledge of the Allagan technology and didn't want this to happen. He wounded G'raha Tia and took him with himself to the reconstruction of Amaurot, where he confronted Warrior of Darkness and fought them as Hades. He ultimately lost and Light was weakened in the First, while in the Source Zenos yae Galvus killed his father and virtually halted creation of Black Rose. This in turn saved the world from the Eight Umbral Calamity... For now.

After this, I’d HIGHLY recommend listening to “To the Edge”, it’s a wonderful follow up and the composer wrote the song while undergoing chemotherapy which makes it hit even harder.

Too late for 11, 12 has cool npc instructions (& there’s a recent remake), skip 13, 13-2 and 13-3 lol. 14 has reminiscences of a lot of the older games so if you played all others you can enjoy the subtext :) if not, i hope you like stories, it’s a slow build to an amazing plot and old content is still playable.

I dare you to hear Soken's tracks on FFXIV. It will be a point of no return for you + you'll get us FFXIV players to come out the woodworking by default. Suggestion and request: FFXIV - INNOCENCE ✌️

FFXIV is one of those sad cases of "it gets better" :/ Unfortunately, asking someone to play something for 120+ hours and pay attention to the story (which has terrible pacing) is just too much. I love XIV to death but I understand why a lot of people can't get into it ^^ Also, if someone recommends a song from XIV soundtrack, it's probably an amazing song xD it's pretty hard to go wrong with this one p.p.s. I still need the Soken Edition La Hee Orchestration Roll :v

Good job for the lyrics but you need to reach the final part to truly understand it. Shadowbringer is about a world in a state of despair, so the main leitmotiv need to feel like that, on the other hand, endwalker is probably about hope and we can allready feel it in the main theme.

This is 3rd video i came across that reacts to this song and instead of using trailer (although yes it contains the speech and is bit shorter) you use clip from game that is very climax of the story and require playing the story to understand what is going on, Combined with trailer tho it may get more clearer on meaning as its more curated experience for non players ^^ You was not off on the meaning but also completely missed the mark as it is more layered and nuanced That said Thank You for the reaction it was very interesting take especially with going trough the music and genre influences you spotted in there * -*

I can see your argument with the trail and I am sorry that it wasn't for you. My only counter is that FFXIV is heavily story based and it would be really difficult to get to the level cap that you are suggesting. I do have to agree with you that it is dated, if it helps having a friend or two to go through it makes the game way enjoyable.
