great analysis! 👌🏽 I actually wrote the Mud Lung theme first and later on made a goofier version for the Mung one, that's why the melody sounds like it's in Bb minor. I thought that changing the tonic to Db major and adding the tritone on the bass would make it sound silly and insecure. about the Bb dominant ending chord: I just thought that as a tonic that resolved from Bb sus4 triad to Bb major triad (of course the bass line is going through that Ab, I guess I just felt it like a Mixolydian tonic). but actually, the very first Mud Lung version that I made, which never got published, resolved that Bb mixo major to Ebm and had a totally different bridge. but they needed something that sounded a bit darker than my first attempt so I ended up changing it and making it modulate to F#m. anyway, cool video 😊. would love to see more of these 🤟🏽

tysm for the comment!! i’m glad you enjoyed the analysis of your own work. i figured you were going for a mixolydian sound in the B section, but didn’t want to weigh the video down by introducing too many concepts to newer musicians. i would be really interested to hear the scrapped version of the mud lung theme that modulates to Eb!!

yea this video alone took me ~3 months of on and off work to finish haha if i ever feel super inspired and that i have something meaningful to say about another song from hbbo, i will probably make another one, but i can’t make any promises :/
