It was so prominent that their was a psychological study on it. I forget the full reason for the study but what they concluded the song carried so much tension in it that a natural physical response to hearing the song, regardless of if the listener had context, was a panic response. The song induces a physical panic response and I always thought that was funny

well... Megalovania technically isn't "from" Undertale. I'd describe Megalovania as the signature song of Toby Fox (the creator of Undertale). he first used the song in a rom hack of Earthbound called "Earthbound Halloween Hack" that he made, he then remixed the song in the webcomic series Homestuck, with some actual guitar work from Joren "Tensei" de Bruin. and then there is the most famous version, the Undertale version which you just listened to. heck, Toby even remixed the song yet again, putting in a few of the Undertale leitmotifs into it and put that version is Smash Ultimate.

That's just kinda being nitpicky. Let's be real. No one knew Megalovania prior to Undertale. And by no one I mean probably like 3000 people at best. Compared to like what.. upwards of 20 million or so now at minimum? Undertale concert alone has 8.5 million views, and I'm damn sure WAY more people know megalovania than have both played undertale and watched that.

This is the song that plays when you sacrifice all the passion and meaning of the story to see the game as a checklist of experiences. It says, "How determined are you to feel empty of all of this?" And it makes you FIGHT for it! You're not fighting to save the world, you're fighting to make it all meaningless. And here's the thing: the fight is HARD. In killing you over and over again, it forces you to keep making the decision to follow through again, and again, and again. Truly one of the most metal moments in all of video game history.

Just the guy who wanted a true pacifist end. If you do a neutral run he’ll call you and imply how you’ve left the underground “incomplete” so you’d go back and try a better strategy (probably why he doesn’t fight you cause he can’t risk dying since he’s the one who subtly prompts you to reset and aim for a better ending). In genocide, he notices too late and well, you know what happens, so he tries annoying the hell out of you until you give up, tries to catch you on ANY technicality to try to get you to reset and do another route. He knows he can’t cause any massive change or he’ll risk you going back after true pacifist out of curiosity, but geno route is the absolute worst case scenario where he HAS to act.

The best thing about this song is its history It's been in 3 separate games (Including Smash Bros) and an Internet fiction series called Homestuck All are slightly different and are all worth a listen, they're all unique in their own right This wonderful composer, Toby Fox, even does music for GameFreak now too

Dude I'm literally only 9 seconds in. Can I just say how massively I appreciate how fast the reaction starts? I do appreciate every good reaction or rather people who put effort into making such videos, but I really don't need to hear the story of their life in every intro. I've seen more reaction videos of all kinds of music than I'd want to admit, but some of them had intros that were almost 1/3 of the entire video. I'm sure we can agree that you can easily verbalize gratitude, greetings and short info in around a minute, surely? Amazing, thanks.

Ive seen you already reacted to UNIVERSAL COLLAPSE but the whole soundtrack is geniuenly amazing, and culminates in an absolute masterpiece of a theme that is "Stained, Brutal Calamity" which combines motifs from nearly the whole OST (at least the songs composed by DOKURO himself.) Ive also never seen anyone react to other tracks from the mod outside the tracks by DOKURO, Be it the exo-mech theme which is official for the mod, the unofficial clamity style themes for vanilla bosses OR the music from the very popular Infernum addon (which is made by the same person who did the exo-mech theme!) As a diffrent recommendation: Lost Ember OST is great. Especially the two songs near the end - "Your Light" and "All That You Are"

Technically Megalovania was used in one of Toby Fox's earlier projects. I believe it was originally made to either go along with a Homestuck thing or a Earthbound mod he made. So the song predates Undertale quite a bit, but Undertale is really where it made it into the mainstream.

I can’t find the link atm but there was a scientific study into sounds which created the most emotional response/anxiety in humans and megalovania was second only to *children screaming.* Toby Fox is a master of making songs that make people feel however he wants, and since this is a (very difficult) secret boss fight it’s expertly crafted to basically make you start trembling with anxious rage after a few (or a few dozen) attempts. Would like to see more Undertale songs in the future:)

SPLOILERS BELOW!!! This song plays in the darkest timeline, when you decide to grind to the point where no monsters spawn. I was one of the lucky ones who got to fight him completely blind back in 2015. When he did his first attack, I was caught COMPLETELY off guard. I didn't expect the laziest character to be so strong. And he was almost unfairly hard. Like I wasn't meant to win. And he talked to you, talking about how fate was unavoidable and how no matter how much he struggled, he would eventually lose. But that in spite of that, he "Can'f afford not to care anymore."

Toby had to make the song absolute fire so you wouldn't lose your sanity dying to sans 3000 times. Legitimately sans is the hardest boss I have ever fought in any game. Every boss in ds1-ds3 combined still can not compare to how ridiculous hard sans is. I've been stuck on him for 5 months now. I've lost all determination.

"i didn't know this was from this game. that must mean it's good" i beg you mister music man, considering you were able to tell major parts of the story through the music alone. stream/do a composer's playthrough of undertale. catch is, you'd have to play through it at least two times. it's just that kind of game. please play undertale. ignore the fandom; play undertale. it's one of those very rare games where just about anyone can get something out of it, which is why it exploded despite it's main combat style being directly modelled after a niche game genre (bullet hells a la touhou). it just has a lot to say.

if you are truly interested in Undertale, then please, PLAY IT! it's an amazing trip from start to finish! only thing i truly recommend is to play it blind on your own from start to finish how you want to before posting it onto KZbin. do NOT stream it. people really seem to get a kick out of trying to hardcore backseat-game Undertale playthroughs, which just ruins the experience. regardless, I do still believe you should give it a play!
