Compared to the original Hornet soundtrack, I think this one has more flow and graciousness to it and its atmosphere really suits the title "Daughter of Hallownest" and the profound beauty and composure of Hornet herself. Don't get me wrong, the original Hornet soundtrack is still my favorite soundtrack in the entire game, I'm just so amazed by how Christopher Larkin can create a whole new feeling and atmosphere with the exact same melody. What a master, we don't deserve him.

The first theme has sort of a “who is this person and why do they want to kill me” vibe This version has a “damn, that’s who she was. And she’s really fucking strong” vibe.

The first soundtrack has a very strong and distinctive starting note which matches well with how Hornet was introduced. A sudden, eye catching red cloak in sharp contrast to the place you met her in, and unlike anyone you have met before. It was a call of “pay attention, this one is important” and as she slowly leads you to where she wanted, every time barely getting there but just out of your reach, until finally catch up and the most difficult fight you had come across so far was sprung on you. That’s what Hornet theme is. For Daughter of Hallownest, you already know her. There is no space for wondering who she is, you know she’s not simply a friend or foe, but rather someone who will guide you while testing your resolve and a key to the kingdom’s past, and someone worth all the magnificence and honour in Daughter of Hallownest.

The detail that Hornet was born by Herrah, raised by The White Lady, and trained by Vespa, was cut from the final game, and is definitely not canon, it made sense before the game launched because the hive was connected to Deepnest in the earlier drawings of Hallownest, when The Forest Of Bones was still planned to be in the game, but in the final game there is no evidence that Hornet is the daughter of the three queens, it is more likely that Hornet was trained by the weavers, because of her connections with Deepnest and the weavers, and in the game files, there is a room in the weavers den that very much looks like belongs to hornet, but that room is also arguably not canon, and should not be taken as evidence, because its in the game files, not the physical game.

The saddest part about this surprisingly true comment is, if you do Godmaster Pantheon endings, you will actually not get the "GIT GUD" voiceline from Hornet :( Since you have to beat the game normally with Void heart to do that, but you don't get to do that. Suddenly becoming the Shade Lord and absolutely murdering the essence out of Absolute Radiance is less appealing if it means to miss out on "GIT GUD". Totally not because of inability to defeat the fifth pantheon.

Just played through Hollow Knight and just want to say, it has one of the best ost's ive heard in quite some time. So...im gonna gush a bit. In many ways I think of the music as the...soul of a game. The bones, gameplay. Obviously for a good game you need good gameplay first, and decent visuals helps for sure. But the music is what takes it up just that extra notch, and keep the feeling of a game fresh in your mind decades later. Hollow Knight has astounding visuals and gameplay. It also has soul. Anyways, love your work, will be buying the soundtrack, and cant wait to see what you'll put out in the future!

This remix was sorely needed. Hornets theme got so overused (since it became the de facto theme for the game) that I’d totally gotten sick of it. This remix does a great job at recapturing the magic and bringing a breathe of fresh air to this piece.
