Papa Haydn. It is as if the dear Chap was out of his mind. God had taken him to another level of musical composition. To this day, I have yet to hear a modern piece of 'classical' music that could touch the harmonic brilliance and creative genius of this string quartet with a ten-thousand foot pole.

When you hear these marvelous pieces, You can understand why Mozart wrote 6 string quartets for Haydn as a tribute. I really think Haydn saved his best musical ideas for these Quartets, as he knew they would remembered .(Having been written for nobility)_

Yes, but only the op 20 and op 33 appeared before the Haydn Quartets. The op 50 shows absolutely no influence from Mozart and manifest how differently a genious can work in the same genre, if one compares it with op 33. The opus 50 is beyond anything Mozart wrote, in technique, mastery, depth, intellectual value and beauty. Mozart was an excellent composer of nursery songs with a few spicy dissonances, something that bores the listener after the second listening. Mozart is the most overrated composer ever, together with JS Bach (good as a music teacher, period).

Vivace - heavenly; Adagio - ravishing structure; Menuetto - beautifully joyous affirmation!; Vivace assai - an unfolding tapestry of beautifully contrasting effects. This is really the meaning of 'composition' - a sequence or assembly of parts in particular relation to each other. This appplies to the whole work, or equally to all the members of opus 50.
