Hi there. I just recorded this 44 minute tutorial on the thought process of creating a storyboard-like panel. Barely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to working out a composition case out of the many many hundreds (to say the least) potential variables, but good as food for thought. I hope you like it! #marcosmateu #marcosmateumestre #framedink #digitalink #composition #shotcomposition #panel #storyboardpanel #storyboard #visualstorytelling #instructional #film #filmmaking #animation #graphicnovel #comicbook

Keep these coming please! It adds even more depth when you are explaining your thoughts while composing this amazing piece. Thank you! Would love to see a video of you explaining drawing characters in both dynamic perspective and poses that is tailored towards making a cover for a comic book per say or an action book. Bought almost all your books except for one which I’ll get in the near future. Looking forward to your videos coming out like this. Have my notifications on as well!

This is like a visual ASMR for us comics artists! To witness the slow process of working out a panel detail by detail! Not too explosive, yet very classy and technical. I adore it! Cheers from Morocco, Mr. Triple M.

I've spent quite a few hours sketching scenes from the Framed Ink books. It's a treat to see the full process. I do my studies traditionally and the places where you zoomed for detail, I always have to handle differently - and that's not a critique, it's more of a little surprise where a digital inker's workflow has a unique ability to drive the direction of the piece. I figured out very quickly that if I try to match the look by drawing more intricately, it won't really work: Changing tools to get a smaller or larger size changes my speed and control, so the energy of the contour is different from using the "same" tool and motion, automatically rescaled. I could work larger and eventually reach the same likeness, but the implication of doing that for every panel would be to spend a lot of time sculpting out things that you did in one stroke digitally. Comic artists who still work traditionally usually stay at a scale between 125-200% of print, and at the upper end of that there's more leeway to do a big composition - Hal Foster's Prince Valiant has examples of what is possible - but it takes more time, and Foster's decision making is clearly in a different place from the Framed Ink style. With that in mind, I usually end up simplifying the compositions instead, but that has the effect of removing the background characterizations that rely on expressive face and hands, and that in turn changes all the decisions that relied on those details to guide attention. A lot of my attempts aren't really successful at capturing the same effect. How would you approach this one if you had to stay zoomed out the whole way through?

Interesting thought. There is definitely not only one way to do things, I always say my books are a base to ultimately help people explore their own ways and thoughts about visual storytelling.

Very easy, it's just the standard round dot brush from Photoshop, only I squeeze it sideways / diagonally to achieve the thick and thin effect. If you have my book 'Framed Drawing Techniques' the whole chapter 3 is about the way I use this digital brush.

Technical question, if you don't mind: is your brush 25 or 30 degrees?
@marcosmateumestre1647

I just go by approximation, sometimes I tweak the angle a bit depending on what feels best for the drawing, it can also be 40... 45, depends.
