An awesome idea ! Sort of the aucubas of software MIDI sequencers ? Brilliant ! Plus it will help me re-learn (in a fun manner) all the music knowledge and theory that I forgot ages ago. Now I just have to go dig around the attic for my old D&D stuff to find some dice !

Hi Lev, apologies for my absence - I've been developing a beginner's course on composing and quickly realised I didn't have time to that and KZbin! Its nearly finished though, so am planning on returning very soon!

Really cool and easy technique even to get over a writers block. Guy Michelmore did a video with dices too some years ago

I keep rolling the dice for chord progressions but it keeps landing on 1 5 6 4.

Hi. This video is pretty interesting. Can you do a video explaining, how to find the tempo of our melody that is in our mind and make it as proper peice. I do struggle to find the tempo and time signature of my own melody that randomly comes while playing the piano . This restricts me from layering more counter melodies and instruments. I can't put my own melody exactly to the grid. Any help from you would be great. Thank you.

Thanks for watching - Yes I'll have a think and try to put something together about how to find the tempo and time signature of a melody in your head

If it's possible for you to write the music down or record the music, you can use a DAW to do this. In fact, when I write a melody and want to put drums to it or whatver, I have the same challenge. Here's what I do... I create a 1 measure drum track, and I put the snares on the 2 and 4 and bass drum on the 1 and 3 (high hats are optional, but I don't use them in this step) Then... you play the melody with the drum track. If it doesn't fit, adjust the tempo on the DAW until it gets close. If you still can't nail it down, mess with the time signature setting. I always start with 4/4 at 100 bpm and just play around from there.

i am so sorry, But I really liked the F, Am, Em, and G and when I heard you play it, It instantly gave me lyric ideas, so if it's not a problem, I'd like to use those chords for a real song!

Nice idea. Could be a good way to get some random creativity. How many dice rolls did it take you to get no double chords? I noticed you got 4 different numbers each time 😆
@composingacademy82703 жыл бұрын
I seem to remember that I did get one double chord, but on that roll the dice flew off the table (luckily :-)! I use the dice to help me come up with ideas though - if I rolled a double chord, I could either give it a try, or simply roll again. Hope that helps!
