You have a real knack for teaching , very concise and simply explained , im very grateful you take your time to do this for us , ive learned lots from your tutorials and love to compose as a side hobby when im not recording heavy metal or improvising on guitar to random backing tracks , theres something i love about writing for each instrument while composing .love your videos and will continue to watch aslong as you make them , thanks again, your greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to chain both CC1 and CC11 together in Cubase so you don't have to 2-finger faders when recording dynamics? My MIDI controller only has rotary knobs, so being able to adjust only one would be very useful.

If I did this for a trailer, I might have the drums come in on beat 3 of bar 32, pound out 4 consecutive 8th notes, and then pause for 2 (or maybe 4) full bars (insert dialogue) and then have the next 8 come back normally!

Can you do a breakdown on 1917's "The Night Window"? I'm as far from musically literate as can be, so I'd love to understand why it has such a flowy, almost Arabian feel to it.

People forget that you need actual skill to make something, I make all these cool chord progression and I could NEVER write melody too, what is wrong with me?

Cool stuff mate and it's very unfortunate that I discovered your channel very late despite I've been composing for media for 6 years now. I'll also add on top of what you explained that ostinato patterns ideas are in fact endless. I understand that you're highlighting some patterns for a beginner to use as a start. However, by the time you gain knowledge and experience, you'll work on endless experimentations/trials & errors to come up with new unexpected patterns. Sub'd and saved your playlist :) Thanks for sharing

Hello Simon, thank you for the great tips! I'm currently trying the Cubase test version, because I would need the notation feature that is missing from my original Daw. At a first glance Cubase has all the necessary tools to create sheet music or am I mistaken? Is there any situation where the inbuilt tools are not sufficient and other software is required?

What software do you use? I'm looking for easy but industry profess software that's free or little purchase so I can create cinematic music for audio-dramas.

Instead of the dummy audio track to separate blocks, why not use Folders? Simple option in Cubase 13 upwards, also useful for combo editing tracks inside a folder.

I hate to swim against the tide here, but I think this whole philosophy is somewhat flawed ! You are not adding parts in a way that maintains correct proportionality between instrument groups, so the result sounds forced together, un-natural and rather non-symphonic to me. Sure, we can use solo legatos as section leaders on top of the relevant section patches, which does add some variation and realism if done as separate performance, but it's a really weird orchestra where 16 violins in a section play for the first half of something, and then suddenly another 32 get added at various points later, rather compromising the overall balance of the orchestra, both in terms of relative weights of sections and disparity of room sizes, not to mention variations in how they respond to dynamics and CCs, and in correlated phase between them. If something needs more volume or can't be heard it's likely to be because the arrangement is in some way not ideal, and fixing that is likely to sound a lot better in the end than just piling multiple additional instruments on top...

Quick question...can one, or how can one, adjust the velocity et al after music is in? Or can it only be done by the pencil OR by playing it while adjusting at the same time (like walking and chewing gum simultaneously)?

This i believe the time cue may be a basic chord progression played in retrograde, which suits the film conceptually as well. In retrograde the orifinal progression would be D, G,Em, Am or a basic I - IV- ii - v. So if hans took a basic progression and reversed it, not only does it conceptually match the movie, but it has the function of plagal deceptive cadences. Just a theory of where compisers look for creative sparks.
