Didn't pay much attention to this section in school and now I'm having to do it for an internship, thanks Structurefree :D

The strain profile is always linear and as long as the materials making up the composite remain linear elastic, then the neutral axis will be at the geometric centroid of the transformed section. The neutral axis does not deform and has zero normal strain.

Awesome video!!! Just a question, how do we know that the Strain profile is linear? I don't quite understand that bit. Thanks.

+WWE Ambrose the strain is associated with the deformation of the cross section and that deformation is continuous since the "layers" are bonded together. If they were unbounded like bending a stack of papers, the edges would be all jagged or discontinuous.

Sir, I'd much appreciate it if you can reply to this question. How do you know the 2 lines of your strain profile intersect at that point? I'm asking because I think that if the slanted line has a deeper slope or slanted more than that then the point of intersection will be below what you have right there. Thus, result in a neutral axis that lies somewhere in the middle of the bottom block.

As the materials are rigidly connected, Strain profile will always be linear because of the flexural formula.

How the strain profile is not changing.

how can you calculate the bending moment of composite beams instead of calculating the stress?
@niklip0074 жыл бұрын
sun you have to do two things. 1. Convert the stresses blocks above and below the neutral axis to forces. 2. Find the centroid of each block (that’s the application point of the force you found on step 1) and calculate the distance between those two points. The moment capacity is the multiplication of the force (step 1) with the distance you calculated in step 2.
