might be different in other texts, but the Burden/Faires he's using has it as shown in the start of the video.

n+1 is the number of points chosen (x0,x1.... xn) to divide the given interval [a,b] , so it makes no sense to have n negative.

n usually means natural numbers. Natural numbers won't be negative.

n is somewhat the no.of intervals we break a region under consideration (integral being the area under a curve) and hence negative n doesn't make sense. like we can not say " there are -2 intervals''
