Compositing 3D Models into Photos Using Fspy and Blender

I cannot believe I forgot to edit this in, but at 4:12 I have gone to 3D guide and selected "xy grid floor." I think I explained how I did that in a part of the video where I was still struggling to get everything set up in a way I was happy with so I deleted it.

I used a car model with alleyway background image. Everything worked. It's just that towards the end when I use Reflections plane (even after making it invisible to Camera), the shadows disappear. The shadow catcher plane appears as slightly darker plane, but the distinct shadows below the car disappear. In your case the shadows re-appear at 11:26. What is happening here? What am I doing wrong? I used an HDRI with diffuse light. But still it was able to generate distinct shadows just beneath the car.

Sorry for the late response! KZbin doesn’t notify me of new comments on old videos sometimes. That’s strange. I’m not quite sure what’s going wrong. The reason the shadows reappear for me is because I unhide the shadow catcher plane (which I had hidden a little while earlier). Are you able to see the actual plane in the viewport?

hey, i'm following your tutorial and i have one issue - for some reason when i switch to render view i can't see the camera background image anymore. i only see my hdri. any idea whats wrong in my setup?

Hi! I'd be happy to try and help. Could you go to Render Properties > Film and then make sure that Transparent is selected?

@@siddharthbhargav yes, it is set to transparency. anyways in your video i can see the camera background is visible also without transparency in your case. i can't see it at all in render mode. if you don't mind i can also send you the scene!?

@@manuelhofmann1950 Ok. There are two solutions I can think of. First to fix the fact that you cannot see it in the viewport. Select you camera and then go to "Object Data Properties" and make sure "Background Images" is enabled. If it isn't, select it and add the image to the camera. Now, this won't allow you to see the image in the render. To fix that you need to go into the "Compositing Nodetree" and make sure that there is an image node, it's title should be the same as the name of your image file. Of course you then need to make sure that the render is overlaid on top of the image and I explain how to do all of this at 13:55 in the video. I think that should fix both issues. Please let me know if you still need help and if so I can try to look at your scene.
