Thank you Marianne - you’ve made understanding this so accessible through your clear illustrative ‘pointing’. I’m moved by your generosity. There’s so much more than “bait” here; I can tell you are truly committed to bringing more light into the world and you are doing that both through your art and your teaching.

Hi Gray, your comments here are deeply appreciated. They make me feel "seen" in that both my paintings and artistic guidance for artists are actually achieving what I've set out to do: bringing light to this world. Thank you!

I had a long career in words and their nuances. I love a good title because I understand how it can deepen the viewer's connection (and even your own) to the piece.

Exactly! I just finished a painting yesterday and am ruminating on what words best "translate" the visual story here... without using words that are overused, IMO! Thanks for your comments....

Thanks Marianne. It is useful to see, in your examples, that the colour relationships can be subtle, and in separated locations. I find myself repeating a colour in various spots, but not altering its intensity. This was a good reminder to be thoughtful.

As a new subscriber I am thrilled with your content! Thank you! And please, is it necessary to varnish oil paintings as a last step? ❤

Hello Susan! Welcome and many thanks for your kind comments about the WAM content. So glad you found me! As for your question about varnishing... It is a personal choice to varnish an oil painting. Some artists feel it is necessary, others prefer to keep the painting unvarnished. Where do I land on this point?! I varnish a painting when the shine of the paint is uneven in a painting and I want it the surface to be more uniform in the paint quality. I hope this clarifies the question to varnish or not! Cheers to your artistic practice...

Hello Marianne. I paint with acrylics. Is it possible to create luminocity with acrylics?
@mariannemitchellwholeart8 ай бұрын
yes! though oils will always be more luminous.

I use glazing with transparent acrylic inks to get a more luminous look with acrylics. I’m in love with how oils look, but I’m going to stick with acrylics.
