Is it true? Can you get pretty good compost without the hassle of turning your pile? Your compost pile needs oxygen and with this system you are providing the oxygen with the fan instead of turning. Little to no labor involved!
This is the original article I read about Jay Armour's system: www.growingformarket.com/arti...
Parts:
~10-20' of large PVC (4" or 6" for better airflow)
One 3' lengths of 4" or 6" drainage pipe (flexible)
Outdoor Extension chord
Some sort of housing (like a tote or doghouse)
1HP Bouncy House Blower: amzn.to/3GSaL1C
Timer: amzn.to/3MinNGs
Happy Composting!

I love it. I was not aware about the rules for compost with manure and that it needs higher temperatures. Yesterday I posted a video about my first ever aerated compost pile in my small backyard garden here in the Netherlands. My pile is not as tall, so instead of using a blower fan I am experimenting with smaller PVC tubing and two piston fish pond air pumps, which I already had, and combined they pump about 90 liters of air per minute and I let them pump for half an hour per hour. I am not using any manure in my pile, but I do have a lot of wood chips and cardboard and leafs and coffee grounds in it, and 5 days ago I added a bale of hay and some molasses and since I added the hay and the molasses the temperature started to climb and now it is well within the right range for compost without manure. I also bought one of those compost thermometers with a 19,5 inch long probe. Those are not expensive at all, but it is the perfect tool for the job because with the probe you can get accurate information about the temperature deep inside the pile. I have no clue if the amount of air that I am pumping is enough or too much, I am just guessing and using what I already had. I just assume that some air is always better as no air at all. And I monitor the temperature and if that is within the desired range I assume that the amount of air that I am pumping is the correct amount. And when I see that the temperature drops below the desired range then I assume that the microbes consumed most of their food and only then I will turn the pile. My pile is about 5 ft wide and about 3,5 ft tall. So I think that I can get away with the smaller piston pond air pumps and the half hour on and off setting. I live in an urban area so for my situation a blower fan is not an option to begin with.

YESSS - Hocus Pocus is one of the best movies of all time (love that you named your cat after Binks)! And honestly what farmer/gardener doesn't love watching a compost pile being made + the up close shot of all those worms!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Also, can you tell I'm thrilled I found your channel? I was born and raised in Greenwood, IN and then was a farmer after college for 6 years (primarily vegetable production). Now I'm hoping to one day get into flower farming! Really enjoying your videos -- thanks so much for sharing your knowledge & life with us!

Tell you have researched it well. Most people do not have enough compost material to do it properly. I gave up and just put out fresh manure, but make sure to leave 3 to 4 months for the pathogens to die off.

Hey Kim! Check out Ruth Stout’s method of composting and/or check into regenerative gardening. Do you ever plant cover crop during the season?

Compost recipe: +50% dry brown, -50% fresh green, mix well into a large volume heap (at least 1m³/1yd³), water well and monitor (temp & moisture) regularly. Within days the heap will start fermentation and become hot; expect a maximum (around 140°F / 65°C)in about a week or so, then the temperature will decline as the maturation process commences). Continue monitoring; water to maintain moisture turn the heap if you think it has become too compact (probably not necessary). In a month or so the mess will have transformed to a dark brown, crumbly earthy material. That is your compost.

Grew up on a farm with compost it was the hill you didn't play on.🤣You all put way to much effort in to something that has been done naturally for 1000's of years.😂
