I learned more in 4 minutes about organic sheep and barn management from this video than hours of watching other channels! Subscribed!

Great video, thanks. I do this too, though my sheep farm is on an island in Malaysia. We don’t use hay or a barn. Instead, we have a wooden house on stilts, 5.5 feet above the ground, with slats to let the poo fall to the ground underneath. I scrape the manure out from under the house and layer it with raked mowed grass and leaves in my compost heap.

Did you try putting some on your land or fruit tree trunks without composting it first.?

Hi, sorry for my question, i hope yoy answer. I'm raising over 500 sheeps, and i usually dont get that poop/ hay mix. I have but only a very small amount. Can i use raw poop?
@keelapermaculturefarm Жыл бұрын
You mean you sheep are always outside so you dont have bedding? Compost needs a good nitrogen to carbon ratio. If you only have poop it wont compost so well so you need to add hay. Use some spoilled hay or straw and layer it with the poo into your piles.

Hi. I'm from Malaysia, a tropical climate country. I have one question, is it okay to expose our compose pile to rain? Or i need roof for the pile?
@benevelit92652 жыл бұрын
no you would need a roof.
@keelapermaculturefarm2 жыл бұрын
Hi Abdullah, sorry for the late reply. I leave ours to rain as we have so many piles and always in different places. But to do it really well you should have it out of rain and control the water you add to it. You should even have it on a cement base so you do not leach too many nitrates in the spoil. In fact that is a law for organic farming here in Europe. p.s soprry for the late reply

Hello and thanks for your instructional video. Interesting that you feed mimosa to your sheep, makes sense, in the wild ruminates eat acacias as well - are they going crazy for it? What about the Johnson Sue Bioreactor, ever thought about it instead of that much turning? Obrigado e abraço
@dentaliban44452 жыл бұрын
By the way, how much mimosa can be fed to sheep in relation to the other feeds? Thank you!

Do u spend your compost over your paddocks ?
@keelapermaculturefarm3 жыл бұрын
Actually I do not at the moment. Just don’t have enough or the equipment. However instead I am slowly planting nitrogen fixing and fodder trees in all the paddocks. Each get a wheelbarrow of compost.

Do you sell your compost as well? If so, how much would you say on average income does that bring in? How many sheep do you have? Im looking to start raising sheep myself. I figured i’d start with 3 and get in to the routine as well as get a hold on the technicals before I expand from there. Thanks for your video.
@keelapermaculturefarm3 жыл бұрын
I mostly use the compost on our farm as we grow a lot. we do sell the odd bit but not many people are prepared to pay what it is worth. a cubic meter of good compost has about 100 eur worth of bedding in it and a lot of man hours. I would not get more than 100eur for that compsot
@andrewgood75863 жыл бұрын
@@keelapermaculturefarm Hey, if you’re spending 100eur for the materials and you sell the finished product for 100eur, you’re basically using shit to replenish your materials right? Just my thinking. Im just starting out with sheep though so trial and error will aid in the learning as always. ha Thanks for your response!
