Compound bow or recurve bow or both bows?

Recurve requires more skill and practise. Compound has a faster learning curve. Both great in their own respects. Totally agree that when you get it right with a recurve, nothing is more satisfying.

archer 80 recurves are good to get you started because I started with one then moved to a horse bow which was harder as there was no arrow rest and it was heavier in draw weight

Eyesack Berrys ford - I would like to get into barebow/traditional too at some point in the future! Very much enjoy the freestyle recurve at the moment though.

I was "started" on a compound bow at an archery clinic AFTER spending a week in a summer camp using a recurve bow....I...HATED using a compound bow. I was very uncomfortable and had to "re-learn" what I had a decent knowledge of(decent enough to continue on a recurve). Just my opinion.

Is there a difference when using that clipper thing on the fingers?

A release aid does excactly what it's called; it aids your release. One of the biggest challenges of recurve archery is releasing the string with your fingers as cleanly as possible, meaning no pulling on the string to any side, and getting your fingers out of the way of the string. A release aid has a little hook loaded on a quick release. Once you activate the quick release, you hook falls away faster than any human finger, allowing the string to move with close to 100% clean release. Compound archers still have to practice their release though, since they can easily mess up a shot by flinching or triggering too early/late.

I have both Compound and Recuve bow i started as well with a compound with a whisker and 5pin visor i dichet the visor and started to only use a whisker for the arrow and i aim with the bare eye once i got used to it i got my first recurve also only whisker for the arrow and i fell in love with the recurve bow, i think starting with archery the conpound would be the better first choice it is much easier to aim with and to shoot aince it takes more than 60% of the weight of you once pulled alle the way back non the less both bows are alot of fun to use i constantly switch them depens on my mood i startet to teach my best friebd archery so i always bring my compound and recurve with me so he can start with my compound bow to learn while i show him on my recurve how to aim and draw with the back

I think both of there helping you send the arrow to the target easily. It would be so good to use a basic bow like Turkish bow or a long bow. That would make a real competition.

"When I'm shooting a recurve good though, there's nothing better in the world. It's all you, it's all the target, and you ... get those moments that you kind of amaze yourself...." You should try taking off the sight and aiming instinctively, I think you will experience more of exactly this. Takes some practice though, of course.

So it others words if you want better skill and being a true archer you go with recurve bow instead of the easy bow that’s a compound bow.

Eric, I am going to argue exactly the opposite. Because the compound bow, when shot with a release, is so precise, even the most minor imperfections in shot execution result in dropped points. When competing against others using the same equipment, if you are not 100% perfect, your chances of winning go down drastically.

I'm using recurve and it's make me know my abilities more and more. Compound only for kids, a true archery need recurve not a compound bow.
