For the final card problem, I just did 2/52 * 12.5/51, because the first event reduces the sample space of possible diamond cards by 0.5 and the sample space of total cards by 1.

Great content, but perhaps the prompt omitted the words Red King 'of Diamonds' on C, which might throw some people off who enjoy pausing the video and tackling the problem before you walk through it): There are 2 red kings in the deck (King of Hearts and King of Diamonds), so the probability of selecting a red king on the first try is 2/52 not 1/52.

I don't understand when do we just multiply the probabilities P(AB)=P(A)*P(B) and when we do the P(A and B)= P(A) + P(B) - A or B...can someone clarify. I'm stuck on it for two days :(
@najahchamoun5170
@najahchamoun5170 Ай бұрын
We multiply them when the two events are independent meaning they don't affect each others probability of success. The second equation is use in calculations of probability that involve unions ("or") and use add the subtraction part when thet arent mutually exclusive (meaning thr probability of one event overlaps with the other event or simly the intersect in the venn diagram)

Sir, I have a question: Probability of getting a black card greater than 3 and less than equal to 9: Since its already given as a black card, shouldn’t the sample space be just 26 cards and not 52?
@radokk3267
@radokk3267 3 жыл бұрын
No. Because all cards are still included in the set. So it is still divided by 52
@natasha255
@natasha255 3 жыл бұрын
Compare two questions: 1) What is the probability of selecting a black card that is greater than 3 but less than or equal to 9? and 2) What is the probability that the selected black card is greater than 3 but less than or equal to 9? In the first case, you can select the red card too. In the second case, you know you have selected the black card, so you can say "given that the card is black".

On the second question for the black cards, why didn't we use the total of the black cards which is 26 instead we used the total of all the cards?
@zipzap6783
@zipzap6783 2 ай бұрын
Because we are calculating the probability of choosing a black card greater than 3 but less than or equal to 9 in an entire deck of 52 cards. Had the question asked what is the probability of choosing a black card greater than 3 but less than or equal to 9 if you are choosing only from the black cards, then it would be 12/26.
