That compound setup is really nice and well thought out. The sizing on the compressors is important as well as the charge pipe routing/ length. Definitely a good amount of r&d was put into that kit. Really quality stuff right there, and nice that the compound style makes it more linear and power more useable rather than it having to rev way out to be into boost, its basically ready to go down low and gives you a much broader power band. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing Rich! 👍👍

Just a note on turbos about one thing that never gets explained. Do people know why turbos are kind of altitude compensating? The volume of exhaust going through the turbo is one factor the other is the density or heaviness of the exhaust gases. As the air gets less, mixture gets rich, exhaust gets heavier and the turbo spins up giving more air all at the same rpm. Same works with more load, fuel is added exhaust gets heavy spins the turbo . An example almost every mechanic has had moisture from an air compressor blast through their impact tools, notice the higher speed change! (Edit to add this) When that happens notice how cold the tool get.

I got a quick question you just had all that machine-gun to that and you rebuilt it and put it all together and painted it but why did you not clean the paint off of the exhaust manifold head surface
@DEBOSSGARAGE3 жыл бұрын
Paint doesn't hurt anything inside. Some engine builders even paint the valleys so that the oil will run down quicker. Little flakes of paint in the exhaust will hurt the turbo's and the head though.

Bi turbo is the simplest, 2 turbos and 2 separate banks like sides of a V6/V8 or front 3 and back 3 of an inline 6. Compound is like this video with one turbo feeding the other then to the motor. Sequential is 2 turbos but one is bypassed until high boost to help spool times.

Hi Deboss Garage, I am not a diesel engine mechanic so by no means am I saying you're doing anything wrong. I have built a few gas turbo engines and I'm an engineer in the auto industry, though I do not deal with engines. However, I have a few questions about your turbo setup. Was there a reason you didn't get water cooled turbos? With gas engines water cooling the turbo leads to a huge increase in reliability. I'd think with the higher temperatures of Diesel it would add even more reliability. Is there space to redo the air inlet so you don't have a "hot air intake"? I picked up 75HP on a 400hp gas turbo build because cold air is denser and doesn't make the engine knock as much, but again that's gas not diesel. I'd imagine there would still be a significant benefit for having actual cold air for a diesel, though. Leif
