Adam, I've been watching your videos for a few months now, and I want to thank you for everything you've helped me with. I picked a good marimba, I know what mallets I want to use, I have an amazing repertoire of music and exercises, and now I'm the head marimbist at my school. Thank you again, and take care. I hope your channel continues to grow!

I’ve never heard of vibe motor fan things. I’m not a mallet percussionist, I marched DCI blue coats for 3 years, tenors. I guess marching bands don’t have them because they don’t have a place to plug it in

Are you going to review any more vibraphones? I've been looking around but there don't seem to be many on the youtube or internet in general. Also, do you know if the One Vibe is tuned to 440Hz or 442/443Hz? I was looking at at Adams vibes; are you aware of any percussion stores in the western United States where someone can actually view vibes/ marimbas from different brands in person?
@nicholassimmons9706
@nicholassimmons9706 5 жыл бұрын
Also it seems like the One Vibe doesn't have a digital setting of how fast to set the rpm of the paddles. This seems like a major overlook to me. Rather than a slider bar it would be great to be able to set the rpm of the paddles from 0 up to 200 or wherever in increments of one rpm.

Hey adam, so i have a question. Im currebtly spending a year abroad studying in Beijing and unfortunately my school doesnt have any mallet percussion instruments and im struggling to find a place to practice, i havent played in qell over month, and im asking you for any tips on where i should try and look. I have no idea how to use the internet for local uses here and everytime ask someone they just look at me like wtf is a "marimba"
@AdamTanPercussion
@AdamTanPercussion 6 жыл бұрын
This is a really good question! I have never played in China before so I wouldn't know where exactly to go but maybe it would be a good idea to email some of the universities around there - I know Peking University has a percussion department so you could try that :)

Kiss The Rain can be directly transcribed to vibraphone from the piano score! It's got such a small range for most of it ahaha... also I just made it up so I don't know if that's exactly the right notes 😂

Master Adam, I have some questions always wanted to ask you.... if you are free to answer :) If you ARE free to answer, please answer at least 3 ok. So, what brought you to learning percussion and later on focusing on marimba? Who was your most inspirational teacher and what did he do? (if you had one) What was your first 4-mallet piece? What moved you to write Path? Or did it just come to your mind one day you woke up. I really wanna know about the story behind. Why didn't you learn some proper vibraphone music and just playing pop songs all the time even on the vibe? (getting violent) If the world didn't have black and white color, what color would you pick your suitcase? And your mallet wrapping tape. And your hoodies. Many thanks!

Majestic and Yamaha also have gas lift on their vibraphones. At least with their field frames.
@AdamTanPercussion
@AdamTanPercussion 6 жыл бұрын
Yessss that is true but they are a different kind of gas lift, I think it's more of an assist than a lift because it doesn't hold the weight up on its own 😅

Is it bad to use Steven's grip on a vibe? I've always had a pet peeve of using the Burton's grip but I feel like that's the normal grip - I've only really practiced with Steven's 😅
@pie213
@pie213 6 жыл бұрын
Joven Ronni Agtang you do you, man. Personally I use the burton and switch to Stevens on marimba , but I'm sure it's more comfortable for you and Adam to use different grips on vibes
@pjm4w
@pjm4w 6 жыл бұрын
Tbh, the grip shouldn't change anything. Certainly, each grip has it's advantages and disadvantages, but it isn't ever "bad" to use whatever grip you're most comfortable with. I (and everyone at my uni) play burton exclusively, both vibes and marimba and it works perfectly fine. It's just like cello/bass players with french vs german bow, it's just preference and shouldn't make the music any different.
@AdamTanPercussion
@AdamTanPercussion 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with what everyone's said below - yes Burton has its advantages on vibes, I feel like I'm a bit restricted when I use stevens sometimes on vibraphone. But that being said, someone who is fantastic at Stevens grip playing on vibes will still be better than someone who is somewhat okay at Burton :) Grip is just one factor, just like mallets and other technical issues and there is never a single 'right' answer 😬
@marinasimmons3553

This made my day Adam!!! So pretty!!! Like I said before, Marimba One has taken EVERY pet peeve I've ever had about vibraphones and made them better!! And after 6 years of being on a vibraphone only, I got a list!! Especially over the motor!! Now I'm going to say something I never thought I would.....the more I look at the One Vibe....maybe the silver bars wouldn't look to bad.... I was going to razz you about no Lionel Hampton but then you played Pure Imagination and all was forgiven! Do you think you will get a chance to review the Lynn Vartan vibraphone mallets? I love her marimba mallets and have been tempted to buy the vibe ones just because.
@AdamTanPercussion
@AdamTanPercussion 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Marina! Yes the silver onevibe looks great also, and I think they really have got most of the brief down :) Ahahahaha I should have more vibe experience, I am such an amateur... I will give the Lynn Vartan's a play on camera soon, not sure if they will make it into a full video but I think they are not bad - that being said for the price I personally think there are definitely better vibes mallet options out there :)
@marinasimmons3553
@marinasimmons3553 6 жыл бұрын
Let me know what you think either way because they are a bit on the pricey side. Since I joined up with a local concert band, I am having to purchase all new mallets. Years of Jazz Band torture gave me my only real vibes experience! HAHAHA!!! You didn't miss much!
