A trick thought to me by a plumber was tape first then a little liquid sealant. I have some high pressure systems and you might have to take apart a lot of fittings to get to one leaking. Since I started doing his technique I’ve never had a leak.

Your video was well thought out and well explained/executed. I just started trying to spray with an hvlp sprayer and have had a months worth of troubleshooting. My last mini in-line filter was choking my system brand new out of the box so it took me awhile to realize what was wrong. So I removed it and it solved my pressure problem but now I have awful craters that appear (maybe fisheyes) in my paint film. So I assume it’s because of not running a filter. So I bought harbor freight’s newer version by Merlin and of course the inlet and outlet are much larger than any 3/8 hose fitting which I don’t understand because this is a 3/8 filter combo. I suppose I have to go and pick out some reducer connectors or something in the morning. Has anyone else experienced this? Just seems really weird to me. Anyway I was just digging around for some information and came across your video and although it didn’t answer what I was searching for, it was a great informative explanation and demonstration of the benefits of a filter setup.

Great vid! I just used mine today for the first time. I use to have just the usual regulator with the water separator in one unit. Today I put in a larger auto emptying water separator, then a new regulator/separator and then the dual oil and desiccant filter same as you. After spraying four stripped and sand blasted skid steer rims I see the beads are changing colour. It doesn’t take long for them to start changing. Maybe an hour to an hour and a half. Definitely way less vapour at the hose end. I’m looking into making one of those zig zag type copper tube wall mounted air dryers. Apparently they work really well. Always something to build! 😁 All the best, Cheers from Australia 🍻

I have found even putting a 50 foot or 100 foot hose in a bucket of cold water before it goes through the water separator will greatly help
@nigelw5982 жыл бұрын
@@CreativityUnleashed That’s a great idea!!! Thanks for the tip. Even perhaps ice in the bucket depending on the ambient temps. The way I understand it is the water separator will remove condensed water and the desiccant will remove the water vapour. So if you are removing heat, you condense more water effectively removing more moisture before it gets to the final desiccant as vapour. I have liked and subscribed 👍 That really is a great tip! I really appreciate it! I see experiments in my future 😁 Cheers 👍🍻

I like your video. And how you reused the beads. But I do have one question if you can help. At the very end of the hose have you measured how much water that is still coming out. That would be kind of interesting. I'm planning on doing the same thing here soon within a year. My home is in South carolina. But I'm working in Florida. For about another year and then I'm done. So I'm buying everything I need to set up.

Is the only water filter the desiccant or do the other traps also get the majority of the water out before the desiccant trap sees it. I have a 60gallon air compressor and it produces a lot of condensate. It would fill those traps pretty quick. I can drain the tank and still get visible water vapor coming out of the hose.
@CreativityUnleashed3 ай бұрын
@@perry9492 of course the refrigerant air dryer is the best option and that’s what I use now. Specially if you use a lot of air, but yes, there is the first water, moisture separator and that removes the majority, but it doesn’t do it. Well if the air is really hot. and the desiccant is only to get rid of the last little bit of moisture.

How often do you feel like you end up changing or drying the desiccant
@CreativityUnleashed Жыл бұрын
there are a lot of variables but for example plasma cutting or spray painting on a hot day with high humidity as little as an hour of consistent airflow you may need to replace the desiccant and dry it out. if you're using a high volume of air consistently you probably would want a refrigerant air dryer. I have a video on refrigerant air drying.
@HarkerHeightsCeramicCoatings Жыл бұрын
@@CreativityUnleashed hello I use this exclusively almost for paint protection film installs, airing up my keg maybe once a day or so. Typically it’s 30 percent humidity and about 70-80 in my shop. So basically probably typically less than a minute per day or so in a climate controlled environment

Any idea if sputtering with a plasma cutter would be caused by moisture in the air? I was told this might be the issue or the gap inside of the cutter.
@CreativityUnleashed3 жыл бұрын
Well I can't say for sure what is happening with your machine. but I have definitely have had problems with sputtering plasma arc because of moster in the air one of the ways to know is how long your consumables are lasting and are they turning black or burnt looking really fast can be a sign of unclean moist air
@StevenPenny3 жыл бұрын
@@CreativityUnleashed Gotcha. Thanks for the info. I also am stupid, hadn’t drained my compressor tank, had lots of water. I just tried it again with lower psi and it worked better. I may try what you did as well.
@cws-9993 жыл бұрын
Yep, u have to flush the tank every week.. It will oxidize soon and you will have problems
@theloop82 Жыл бұрын
The moisture and debris in the unfiltered air cause the consumables in the cutter to go bad quicker, so the answer is yes to both I bet.

@CreativityUnleashed2 жыл бұрын
The first filter works but does not separate all of the water the desiccant filters are better at catching the last bit of moisture remaining but if you were to just use desiccant it would get saturated very rapidly and stop helping

Those desiccant dryers don't do shiet unless you're using some $100/oz stuff. It takes days for that stuff to absorb moisture The higher pressure speed things up a bit, but the higher temperatures slow it right down to a stop. It's basically just a filter that some water gets stuck in. It's not absorbing it from the air. Its either just straight water that it soaked up or moisture from the atmosphere. That stuff works in days not seconds. Also you can make a way better one for half the price with 20 feet of pipe and a few gallon jugs of dessicant. 20 feet of tubing and 10lbs of dessicant now that might actually work in seconds.
@CreativityUnleashed2 жыл бұрын
You're definitely right this one is only good for a very small amount of air I now have a refrigerant air dryer and that works way way better but in my opinion it still is better using it then not using it makes a big difference but I think making a high-volume desiccant dryer could be a good option as well !
