That is a nice old engine I was born in 1961 and I had one like that back when I was in the NAVY in south Carolina it was used on a 12 foot boat . I also seen one for sale at a yard for 30 .00 and it was running but not as good as yours . I would ask $50.00 for it . Keep up the great videos!!!

I had low compression 15hp Chrysler. I socked the top of the pistons with carburetor cleaner mixed with the fogging oil with the cylinder head off. At first I could move the pistons sideways in the cylinders. After few days the movement disappeared. I kept the engine in horizontal position covered with the head to slow down evaporation. I moved the pistons in all direction to release the rings in the grooves twice a day for few days. I was waiting for new head gasket so I had time. After installing the head gasket engine fired just on carb cleaner. I will test it when gets warmer on gas/oil mix

OK, I'm a bit late and it makes a very marginal difference but just for the record, Don, that motor is a 1965 model. Regards.

Runs good, and I'm superised that you can still buy parts for them.

KEWL! It's pretty tough to kill these old engines.....I'm glad you just soaked it and didn't disassemble it...Wonder if the compression readings changed much...

You can not get the needle bearings. However, the needles are standard size drill rod which is almost the same metal. Very careful with some diamond might get it done.

Nice little motor. Makes me wish you lived closer to me, and that I had the money. I'd bring my 40hp Evinrude to you.
@donyboy7311 жыл бұрын
yes I took the head off to get rust off, used a wire brush
@Slane58314 жыл бұрын
@donyboy73 That and I don't have the money to see if it runs. I took the cowling off a few weeks ago and turned the flywheel over by hand to see if the pistons were free. They moved just fine and it felt like it had tons of compression in it.

Mine has 50 and 60 lbs , what did you do to get compression back up?
@donyboy7314 жыл бұрын
@snaponjohn100 soaked it with massive amounts of penetrating oil and after it ran it just ran better and better
@andrewasbill36908 ай бұрын
what did you do exactly to bring the compression up? did you let some cleaner soak in the cylinders and it loosened the rings?
@outboardfixer5 жыл бұрын
You have to open the VENT screw on the gas tank cover to let air in.

They could have always swapped the carbie -- like I did to my 1966 Johnson when I put a carb on it from an older 1960 with 2 needles on it. Check my vid on my channel to see what I mean.
