Another thing i like to do with this is to use the low band from the EQ to boost my kick drums with a bell curve for some reason this channel strip works particularly well for that purpose.

MY UNDERSTANDING is 'yes'. People say that the "magic" is the overcompensation the SSL strip inherently does when applying autogain. The point of the compression isn't REALLY to compress. It's just to make the strip engage autogain and SUPPOSEDLY all the emulations autogain with the same "magic"

Will the SSL G Bus comp work the same for this purpose? With the same settings?

+I've heard+ that it definitely works at least +better+ in the strips than the comps. The "trick" is in how the strips autogain - which doesn't autogain the same as the comp.

It's for mixing purposes, not for mastering... In master try using low ratios (

It's a really low ratio so it hugs the entire input signal with very light compression.

Wheres the trick here? I don't get it because it's normal and common knowledge to use a glue/bus compressor on your busses

It's not common to turn the Threshold all the way down and use Ratio to dial compression. It's most commonly done the opposite way.
