i agree with @listenin007 cause i just started off producing and i really liked the way you started but then it went haywire. I hope you make a lengthier video or this...

Thanks as always for a great video Will. Just wondering, as I'm really struggling with "melody" making (I'm making techno, so for what it's worth calling it a melody 😅). Is it worth investing in something like Scaler 2? I often have the beat, the drum, the atmosphere and basically everything else, but it feels like I'm lacking something catchy, like some kind of melody. Know what I mean?
@EDMTipsКүн бұрын
You’re welcome! It depends - As you say, techno doesn’t usually have melodies (in the normal sense) - but sometimes it does. I’d listen to your favourite techno tracks and ask yourself whether it’s a melody that’s missing from yours or something else
@DatmermusicproductionКүн бұрын
@@EDMTips Ok, get that. So if I was missing a hook or melody, is Scaler something that could help me in that area? I've bought a Scaler variant from WA on discount a while back, can't even remember it's name, but I really don't like it. One reason is that it needs a workaround for using it with Ableton.

Waves has some awesome plugins which I would never buy! Please do not buy any bundles from waves ever! If you can, avoid Waves altogether! If not buy a perpetual license for that one specific plugin. Every dollar I've spent on Waves has gone to waste! They have a terrible scheme to trap users. I had the platinum bundle which i bought for black Friday and 6 months later they released V13. V12 was not supported with the MacOS i updated to back then. So they asked me to pay 150$ to keep using plugins which I had already paid for! I am not against expensive plugins, but scammy marketing to get you stuck in the system is terrible!

95 % of all plugins I use are free.Only paid ones were Waves H-Delay, Waves Rbass, Spire and JP6 From Adam Szabo. There are tonns of free or little money plugins everywhere. Melda Productions,Analog Obsessions,Voxengo.

“Any Genres” is a stretch… every genre’s melody is characteristically different. For example modern pop is NOT the same as classical melodies at all. I would definitely not generalize this that wide. To get into more complicated and sophisticated genres, you gotta start actually learning music theory

I honestly think this is one of your most useful tutorials. It has made a big difference in the quality of my mixes and I occasionally come back to it just to refresh my memory (like now:)). Just one question: How to deal with the fact that there is quite a bit of variation in terms of intensity throughout the track? For certain channels (like the kick), it is relatively easy to set the gain at -18 dB and it will remain more or less constant throughout the track. But leads, pads, vocals etc. are normally more intense at some points and quieter on others, especially at mixing stage when they haven't yet been compressed heavily. So, if the track is very dynamic, should I set the gain at -18 dB in the loudest part, the quitest part (not likely?) or make a guestimate on where the medium intensity might be? Or is this question in the category of obsessing about gain staging? :D

Currently digging Magnetic (Tape/Tube Saturator) by Nomad Audio, FabFilterVolcano2 is very good. Honestly it's a golden age for electronic music producers in terms of plugins, it has been for a while. Yesterday I was programming some stuff in the old Z3ta and it was bliss. Get deep into sound design, automation, and think outside the box if you wanna create something really good. Modern electronic has way too much clichés, and too much use of templates and stock loops, mediocre use of vocal snippets, etc, imo.

I love Waves but their pricing strategy on updating is bad. If anyone does a laptop & desktop combo they’ll find out the hard way $$$…😡. BTW yes another DJStudio(Remix) would sound great. The last one was stellar!

Arturia X is the one. Output? C in man there’s so much better granular synths for third of price out there. I think Native Instrument is so so… what I don’t like about them is Bloatware. It’s all bloatware and make it difficult to just call a plugin and get going.

I met my wife of 20 years working at Witness festival in Ireland. The bar closed just before the headline act, Faithless and they ripped the place apart. When this kicked in, I could feel tears welling in my eyes. The power of this tune is so hard to describe to our kids who now think it's "pretty good". Lol These youngsters...😂
