The two knob Keeley reminds me of my 70's Dyna Comp which I absolutely love. Unfortunately it doesn't have an LED and eats batteries for dinner. I like the idea of the Wampler having the dry mix capability.

I really like the Mooer Yellow Comp sounds the best in my headphones lol but the Wampler was decent too 👍🏼

The Keeley GC-2 is a Limiter. It's interesting to note that in many (if not most) of the Keeley channel demos of Keeley pedals, GC-2 is rn last n the chain of pedals, before the amp and/or interface. I miss my Yellow Comp. That EQ! It's basically a clone of the Diamond Yellow, optical compression. I already have like a gazillion pedals but hey, it's just a little Mooer...one more won't hurt...just a wafer-thin piece of minty compression...

The Wampler seems the most versatile with all 3 important compressor controls (compression, attack and blend) plus a tone control. Those should allow fine-tuning your tone for most situations. I own the Moer pedal and although less controllable it produces a really beautiful smooth compression, I use it more as an effect on super-clean settings.

I like the Mooer first. But then second the Keeley Compressor, close third, the Wampler Ego. Walrus Mira and Darkglass Hyperluminal in SYM mode sounds really fantastic too; maybe a cut above these, in transparency, I find. Then the Cali Origin '76, which really brings a boosty vibe, sort of like the Keeley does, but does it better.

This video couldn't have come at a better time. I've never had a compressor pedal and I've been thinking about getting one all week. I don't know a lot about them, so I'll have to rewatch the video and really listen to find my favorite. Thanks for the demos!👍😎🎸🎶

Mooer Yellow Comp for the reliability, just plug and go

Very good job, thanks a lot. I have a small preference for the Wampler which seems to me more versatile.

Between the Joyo and Mooer which did you prefer and why?
@ClintCurtis5 жыл бұрын
They're both good for minimal compression that is pretty transparent. I use the Joyo all the time, so I'd probably go with that one over the two. thanks for watching!

Wanted to hear the gc-2 vs the wampler. Wampler changed the tone too much for me. Buying the Keeley. Yellow one was surprisingly good. You should do comparisons like this with a looper is you have one. Let's you A/B them.

GC 2 or Wampler. They both give that open or airy tone as you put it, which I like, and with my style of playing more room for that little tone expression to still be heard resonating and not "biting" or lost. Just my taste but we all know we would keep them all if we had the chance! Great video as always Clint!

They're all great, but I agree these two stand out for me. In fact I put the GC-2 in my pedal board after this video.

Joyo, always Joyo! Joyo is a transparent pedal. It does not degrade the signal and maintains all the nuances and spectrum of frequencies. Sounds even better than MXR's famous Dyna Comp. Nice review guy 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The Wampler sounds musical and I like it. Wish you would have reviewed the Xotic SP Compressor which I just purchased. It offers the same OTA (operational transconductance amplifier) technology used in what many guitar players consider the best compressor ever, the Ross Compressor. Superb tone quality featuring a wide variety of compressor tones from vintage to subtle to modern and more. It's super flexible and features a dry blend knob, up to +15dB of boost and an internal dip switch for attack control. Thank you for your great vids.

Great review and comparison! It’s hard to notice much difference from the video. I have Keeley 2 knob for more then 10 years and I like it a lot! It gives me that chewy bite for solos that others can’t do. Tried Cali76 and new Keeley plus and wasn’t as impressed... I’m tempted to try Wampler ego though. Is there much difference between Ego and Keeley 2 knob? What is your favourite? Thanks

I used to have one too. 2001 I think.... I had to sell it unfortunately. I have the Mooer now.

Still don't know why one would use a compressor. I don't hear any discernible diffrence--- if anything it sounds better without it.
@ClintCurtis4 жыл бұрын
It's very subtle that's for sure.

@@ClintCurtis well given the $300 compressors sound about the same as a $40 pedal leads me to believe that perhaps it is kinda unnecessary
@pimentocheese6184 жыл бұрын
It's for making all that you play equal in terms of frecuencies, whether it's necessary or not it depends on the style of music that you play, if you play ambient stuff or music that needs a game of intensities, you won't need it, but if you play something that needs to mantain the same volume for all your chords and notes throughout the entire song (Like the smiths, the police, jangly or funky stuff) then you need a compressor
@Hagchtogow4 жыл бұрын
Very sorry for you hammill... the difference is not only subtle but really essential for a lot of use. Try a funky riff, or send a chorus that needs high sustain and u'll understand the necessity of compressor unit. Not to mention a quiet acoustic style accompaniment and many other things...
