I don't think the PCIe version will be the limiting factor, at least not in most new games. I looked into this a few months ago actually before building my sister a PC with a 10th gen i3 with a 6600 non-XT out of some spare parts after upgrading my PC. I was curious if a 10th gen Intel CPU would effect the GPU's performance since those don't support PCIe 4. Based on my "Look at KZbin videos that record gameplay along with some articles", which I understand may not always be the most reliable or consistent source of information, I found that the difference, at worst, would be 10 FPS. And that was for Insomniac's Spiderman PC ports. Most games had a 1-5 FPS difference when paired with a modern Ryzen 5000 CPU, which I'd consider to most likely be a margin of error. I think the CPU would be the bottleneck before the PCIe version it supports. Edit: The difference in PCIe version with a x8 connection likely won't be affected. This doesn't apply to a x4 connection.

It’s not the pcie version that causes the problems the biggest issue especially with this system is that the card is a 4.0 8x card in a 16x slot 3.0 slot so bandwidth is even lesser because the gpu Can really stretch it’s leg because the slot is really holding it back but it still overall seems “fine” In the grand scheme of things

Youre right, it doesnt seem to be a big difference, but as ANDO also pointed out, its the x8 or x4 of these new PCIe gen 4 cards in an older board that can cause bandwidth issues. Even if its not a lot, theres still performance left on the table and its something to keep in mind. However, in the future, my friend can upgrade the platform to something more modern from AMD, and the GPU will be able to stretch its legs more, as well as being able to take advantage of Smart Access Memory.

@@YogertPC Right. I should have specified my assumption is a PCIe x8 link would not be a limiting factor since the 6600 is also PCIe 4 x8, but that wouldn't apply to a x4 link.

Awesome. Great that you still are continuing uploading. I also want to upgrade and/or new build this or next year.

Hell yeah, i’ll definitely want to hear about when you do upgrade

Nice video. I have an i7 8700k, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. I play a lot of older games so this works fine.

Let’s just hope More Games get more Vulcan support so those older cards stay relevant for longer and that more people keep making community drivers
@YogertPC Жыл бұрын
Agreed, but since even Maxwell still gets drivers, we hopefully have at least two more years of official 10 series support

i7 7700 + ram upgrade would have been better, cheaper and easier.
@Andoonline Жыл бұрын
Board and chip was literally 100$ and the 7700 just doesn’t have the cores to keep up with modern titles and workstation needs They need those extra threads and clock for clock those two chips are very similar too
