Hey guys, Logan here. I'm seeing so many comments regarding how old my PC is, and for context, we don't have the money for a huge $1000/$2000 PC, so I got it from someone who builds PCs out of passion. He didn't seem to have much money either, but it was enough to make me happy at the time. I've also seen comments regarding the upgrades at the end. I definitely did not expect him to upgrade it for no extra cost, and I am still super thankful for Danny because of it. Fantastic video!

Please don't let commenter's affect (discourage) your level of generosity. The kid was obviously used to that level of gaming, and it was a four-generation / 6gb vram leap over his current graphics card. That's literally more than he could have imagined, and I, for one, applaud you for paying attention. You saw his situation and understood that even replacing his gpu with your same sku card, would likely solve his issue, but then took a step further and potentially safeguard the rest of his parts by replacing his well-aged psu. His reaction is payment enough. He was so excited. You absolutely made his day. THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!

the real issue is so many people aren't willing to work and save for a computer or parts, because their lazy!! MOST not all of course as some have other issues that prevent them from making money. It's not hard to save a few thousand dollars if you really want it. My son and his friends made $500 in a week going around washing neighbor hood cars and windows lol it just takes less lazy. you could alos work nights for a few months at a fast food joint or restaurant to make the extra cash then quit.

I have the money to build a whole new rig. Though I have an R5 3600X & a GTX 1650. Do I want something new? Hell no, the system still runs fine and satisfies MY NEEDS. @@toddblankenship7164 a few thousand? sure, for a kid that has no bills to pay and doesn't have to buy groceries or gas or anything, that's achievable in a couple months. those of us with mediocre jobs and expenses aren't going to save up for a year or more to get 14th Gen i9's and RTX 4090s. I can throw together a perfectly capable rig for $600. quite a bit less if I stay on the lookout for deals and used or refurbished hardware no rational adult that makes less than $30/hr is going for a top shelf build. if you are, you need to get your priorities straight, unless you're a successful streamer or something along those lines. nobody else really needs to be able to run everything on ultra settings. go with a mid build and use that spare cash to improve your situation in life. invest it in your vehicle, an appliance that needs replaced, invest in ETF's or (low risk) stocks or something. do not put it in a PC that rapidly depreciates in value unless you can actually afford to lose a few grand without it having a major impact on your life

This. After all the testing this was the only logical conclusion BEFORE stating is was a combination of old and used GPU and potential weak PSU. Al the shown test proof non of those seemed to be an issue (gpu worked fine, as did the PSU). The only thing i dont see is after all the test that he put back the original GPU. In years of use there is a small potential degration of contact my means of mosture and corrosion. Reseating cards, cables, ram... its basic troubleshooting and its the only thing that the video isn't showing to be done.

I'm not familiar with event viewer and I have a AM4 motherboard with a 5800X that randomly resets while livestreaming...I'm not joking. I can do anything else on that PC with no problem, but once I livestream, that's when it will randomly restart. My guess is the GPU needed to be reseated. I have run into that issue several times. I have also run into an issue with system memory not working correctly and it be something as simple as they need reseated or the CPU cooler is screwed down too tight. Just in the last day or two I had all 4 ram sticks in a secondary rendering machine and while task manager and the bios recognized all 4 sticks, only two of the ram sticks was being used. It turns out that two of the ram sticks because they were sitting outside the machine for a year, the traces had just enough oxidation that prevented all the traces from making proper contact with the ram slot. I couldn't see the oxidation with my eye but under a magnifying glass I could. I just used a piece of 300 grit sandpaper and lightly ran it across the traces once or twice and then wiped it off with a clean cloth. Suddenly the issue is gone. I have had the same issue with GPUs that have been sitting outside a machine without the little plastic cover that goes over the connector.

Hope he reads this. Probably doesn't need to do anything so drastic as sandpaper, though, a gentle connector clean and reseating could/should have done the job.
@BlenderRookie
@BlenderRookie 3 ай бұрын
@@techassimilate I think he wanted to give the guy the 580 and a better PSU. Probably would have given him that regardless. As far as the sandpaper I used, I only did so after a cloth on the connector and repeated reseating wasn't working and it was an extremely fine grit.. I was beginning to think the MB or the CPU was failing. In 2020 I dropped that CPU on my desk and bent about a dozen pins and then spent several hours trying to delicately bend them straight with an exacto blade. It's an old b350m asrock and a ryzen 5 1600x.

My theory: Bad powersupply (out of ATX spec powersupply). 12v Dips on powerspikes on the GPU since its single rail, Psu doesnt react fast enough/out of spec and mainboard simply cant handle the voltage dip without the PSU "racting" fast enough. This can happen due to Board design of the lightning. Basically the high end Powerdelivery on the lightning comes as a detriment, as it can handle more power due many small resistors with less capacitance, but the smaller resistors cannot buffer out powerusage spikes because of that and rely on the PSU for "assistance", which is usually no issue, but the PSU is a very shady one, voltage dip too high on anything above e.g. 350w and the PSU needs to adjust until Voltage is stable, just takes too long and mainboard becomes unstable. Hope it makes sense to anyone
@TheAddanz

PSU was fine. The GPU sag and symptoms point to bad PCIE seating. Maybe badly seated. An anti-sag bracket fixed my 5700xt with VERY similar issues. PCIE is touchy and you can get to windows with a poorly slotted card only to see it crash in 3D apps. Exactly like the video. Also explains why it worked when reseated in a different board. 550w was plenty for that card. Total system draw would be around 300w under load and wouldn't break 400w even with heavy overclocking..... The seating issue opened my eyes about PCIE connectivity. My 5700xt system hasn't crashed since installing an anti-sag bracket that cost about 50cents to 3d print

I had the exact same issue with crashing when I bought my 7900XTX. I had an older corsair PSU that had the proper wattage to run the card, but it was not compliant with ATX 3.0 standards. The issue being with the newer GPU's they ramp up in power needs much faster between idle and load, and the older PSU's can't do it. They simply can't switch the power fast enough to supply the card which leads to a crash.

Your diagnosis is what I was thinking right away. Especially with not seeing a blue screen crash. I do believe his cheaper power supply wasn't supplying enough power and the graphics card degraded over years and needed more power, your awesome for helping him out man. I remember when I got into building my own pc. When you put it all together properly, and nothing is DOA, you can make a pc last a long time I had mine 10 years before I finally built a new one.

Hey nerdonabudget! you did a spot on great job, my friend! My first suspect Number 1 was 100% the Power Supply. Once you see a System crash with little load, seemingly out of nowhere, the Power Supply is in most cases the culpable. Here's a pretty good parable to understand the problem here: think of a Race Car that with a too narrow Gasoline line to in combination with insufficient air supply. The Engine will simply shut down once you step a little bit to much on the gas, it's as simple as that. Really love and appreciate very much that you helped Logan out, since he's a still a Student and on a small budget. Everybody has once been there and that's how we are supposed to be to our Brothers an Sisters. Helping each other according to everybodys abilitys and skills! When your heart tells you to do help somebody, just do it and don't make a big deal out of it.

GPU is getting worn out and can't handle the unstable power from the cheap PSU. You nailed it. In fact, it is probable that dirty power from the cheap PSU is why the GPU is degrading in the first place. An RX580 may not seem impressive to a PC snob but when you look at it from a statistical standpoint, you doubled his rasterization performance and quadrupled his VRAM. You opened up the door for him to play some AAA titles that were released in this decade, something a 7870 won't do because of the DX feature level.

not 100% sure he nailed it, i think its a 2 part issue with hotspot temp due to old card dry paste/dirty power causing more heat. only if he repastes that gpu and issue persists would i be 100% sure he nailed it. and the way the guy described the issue getting worse over time, it would make sense.

Very nice thing to do. I don't have 1/100 th the PC knowledge that you have, but unfortunately, my family and friends have even less, so I am often stuck trying to solve their PC problems, phone problems, etc. I know how frustrating it can be and to do it for free was very nice. Doing it for free for family and friends is one thing but for a comoplete stranger is a much bigger deal. Providing him with a new system was the icing on the cake. Thanks for being a good guy. There are not enough good guys out there.

@@scaredbtw3666 i mean he's not a very big youtuber i doubt he rakes in that much money, and an rx 580 is still very respectable today. u don't need 2k worth of parts for school and some gaming, and smth like an rtx 4080 would probably jus get bottlenecked by the 3rd gen i7 anyways. enthusiast parts are for the enthusiasts that has the money for it
