+The Obsolete Geek I have an SX-64 sitting on an old school bus along with a few other Commodore 64's and C64's (not to mention a crap-load of old IBM PC/XT units and a couple Atari computers) at my mother's house. I need to go back after all these years and raid that old bus. I unloaded my pickup one night after taking an entire basement of computer odds and ends from a guy a few towns away who had horded years of old pc stuff. Went through most of it back in 1995-96 or so, but I have gained tons of knowledge and a little know-how since then. Very likely I will come across something I can recognize as valuable now that back then looked hopeless. That SX-64 is DEFINITELY getting a restore when I find it! I remember it distinctly, but at that time, didn't find it interesting for some odd reason. And I seem to remember that guy had inadvertently gotten black paint overspray on some of the items somehow. If I find something cool enough, I'll try to remove that paint. Seems like I remember an old 10" Atari floppy drive somewhere in that mess, too.

+The Obsolete Geek Now if I told you I got my SX-64 for free ;) Pretty much everything except the floppy mech was broken tho (monitor, PSU, cpu board, fdd board, connections, keyboard missing) - but it's fully back to work now :)

I have to be honest: This series is usually difficult to create because any type of decent find is very rare these days. The last two months have been very unusual. I've never seen anything like it. El Nino maybe? Huge thanks to the original owner for allowing me to film (not everyone is comfortable with it, for obvious reasons) and sharing some of his stories with me!

You're not kidding. I got a haul of Apple IIgs stuff last year but haven't found anything else to add to my collection in years. I was eyeing that LC for the whole video.

You should reach out to the person who sold this stuff to you again for a follow up video. That guy seems like he has a story to tell. Can we get a second video of you interviewing him? I mean... That guy has like OLD SCHOOL computer knowledge. Would love to hear it. But he probably would never make his own KZbin video.
@brostenen6 жыл бұрын
I bet he have shared stories and knowledge with the computer history museum. That and grand canyon plus mountains near fresno, are the only things I would travel to america for. What I would not give, to get a behind closed doors tour, of that museum. Anyway.... Yeah. A video of him, telling his life story regarding computers. That would be great. Personally, I have only had the pleasure of being a home user. First time I saw and touched a computer, must have been around 1985 or something. That was a C64. I was 9 or something like that. Never ever saw an Apple computer at all, untill around 1992/93. That was an Apple mac-something with LC-II. And the saw the next in 1996. The third I saw in person, was at a store around 1999/00. Yeah... For some reason, nobody owned Apple products here in my country, untill after the iPod was introduced. It was all Dos/Windows and Commodore through the 80's and up into the 00's.

always thought that there's old industry people out there by the thousands who could have interesting stories to share if someone just asked. luckily at least some podcasts have picked up the task, like Ted Dabney Experience who interview coin-op arcade people, but longer it takes the less chances we have to get their stories recorded

Were going to start seeing more and more of this stuff on the market as people retire or pass away and start downsizing so "sadly" it's going to get even cheaper. Most vintage PC's have little collector value unless it's something unique like an Apple I or the Apple Lisa.

I am apparently very late to comment here, but the amount I have paid for SX64 stuff and you even have the blue handle pieces that usually fall off...all for $20. You cannot get the keyboard cable for close to that price...a very sweet find. The rest of the stuff, is cool, but I have always been more of an 8 bit Atari guy over the Apple 8 bit stuff myself. Here in Western Canada, stuff like this would have been dirt cheap late 90s to early 2000s, but today? Impossible to find or super pricey.
