I suffered severely from interference from my PC on all HF bands despite multiple ferrites and grounding. Then I bought a cheap laptop that is powered/charged by 12v. Problem solved and the laptop is small enough to sit next to the transceivers. 73 - F4FEW

Insulated/isolated ground electrical system and grounding of chassis can help a lot. When I built my new shack I wired the electrical system with an Insulated/isolated grounding system. My computer is a Mini BeeLink and my radio an Elecraft K3 are about 8 in apart and I have zero noise in the radio due to the computer. However my Fosi bluetooth audio amp causes about 2 S units of noise, working on that, for now I turn off the audio amp when using the radio.

A common mode choke on the coax near the radio worked for me to get rid of the noise generated by the laptop. The snap-on beads did nothing for me.

Something the might help is trying to power stuff on different circuits from the breaker panel. Computer equipment hardly ever doesn’t feed noise back to the supply. When I worked for the phone company we had battery backup and inverters. The cheaper inverters produced noise that was acceptable for most applications but the noise when mixed with produced by common network equipment there were problems.

One other thing, if you use a wired mouse, I've had these interfere with my radio gear as you use either the buttons or the scrolling wheel. Put a ferrite on that cable as well.

A great deal of interference on HF specifically may come from Ethernet cables. Most cheap ones come without shielding. Look for the ones having sheet metal on the outside of the connectors - these are the shielded ones. Even better if they come with ferrite beads, or you can add them. But ferrite beads on the ends of longer non-shielded twisted pair cables are ineffective in my experience, especially when the cable approaches quarter wave in length. 73 from VE7EVE.

Just a note for some people who may have to connect their monitors over a longer distance than the standard two meters. I use 7.5 meter long 8K "Active" DisplayPort and HDMI Cables (available on Amazon) for my 4K monitors. They're more expensive but worth it as they are well shielded and completely noiseless. Avoid the cheap, short cables that come packed with new monitors. They're guaranteed to be of the lesser quality variety.

Great video ! That advice works with the ferrite. I ended up needing a lot of them snap on cores . But worked well for me. I am portable with a IC 7300 ,LifePO4 battery and antenna like a end fed half wave and a laptop for logging. One day doing POTA I wanted to use FT8 and easy to do with built in soundcard on 7300. I have done many times before. In 1 park. I get set up. Great SWR . like 1.4 SWR. On FT8 running WSJT-X in different laptop. sometimes the laptop will lockup once the mouse pointer would disappear after calling CQ. I had ferrite all over . Well forgot 1 cable. The USB A to B cable from laptop to icom . I had a long printer cord so I wrapped it threw a T240 -31 toroide I had in go kit for choking coax, I have extra chokes always . That fixed the problem . Any cord or cable on computer or radio can either be the source of RFI or recieve RFI . I learned that by forgetting 1 cable. 73

it is a peer to peer network. Don't believe computers are private. In order for privacy. You have to put the hardware in a Faraday cage and hope it is sealed.If it is not sealed a near by computer will act as a bridge. There is a peer to peer that is unknown. I observed it talking on 462 mhz .I observed it advertising it's self every so often in the Faraday cage.before I put it in the Faraday it would not stop talking on 462 mhz. I setup a laptop near the computer in the Faraday cage because i need it.long after I put it in the Faraday cage. The next time the computer advertised it's self they both started screaming on 462 mhz. The only reason i know this is because I had a scanner on . Every time I turned on my the mobo I bought for my gpu to run llm's on. It made alot of noise on 462 mhz. So i put in a Faraday cage because I didn't want to lose my hardware to the FCC. I found out all this. I'm not saying this is just about llm's.

Use a good brand like fair-rite also stay away from the cheap Amazon stuff .

Be blessed with goodness. Please advise people they don't need a license to use HAM RADIO in emergencies.
@Matthew.Morycinski2 ай бұрын
Probably depends on country. In some countries if you touch a radio transmitter without a licence, they send you to jail before you can say "it was an emergency."

That’s bad advice and one that does not comport with the full FCC regulations concerning emergencies.
