Also with the 747 was a flight plan added to the FMC giving the AI an idea of the speed and height restrictions required for landing at the airport? The 747 was overspeeding and at the wrong height due to not having the information it needed. Without a flight plan, there is no way the AI could do a good landing..... as is the case in real life.

Height restrictions that have to be out in manually would be missing, but it's not an autopilot. It's supposed to simulate a real pilot. So it knows (or should know) position, speed, altitude, attitude, terrain around itself and where it's heading etc. If we can do a decent VFR landing there, this AI should as well.

FUN FACT! The Cirrus Vision Jet has AI emergency autoland with radio transmissions. A press of a button activates it if the pilot is disabled and a passenger is in the cabin. It can land at any airport in any weather and apply brakes even!

The AI in MSFS 2020 isn't actually bad in my opinion, it can fly your flight paths entirely without any help, and can execute fairly good landings, however the takeoffs are ok (they don't full power takeoff they take off then coast, and keep throttling up and down). Swiss sorta put the AI in a hard spot by trying to get the AI to land a 747 in Gibraltar, and a A320 neo in a very small airport. The Cessna had a clear issue of wanting to land at the same elevation as the end of the runway.

I had FS2020 Ai fly me from Vegas to LA. It's take off was fine and it climbed great, but when it reached 22k feet the planed cruise altitude, it full throttlled and had that baby pinned to LA, but it slowed down in time and landed fine. It was the Learjet btw. I heard OVERSPEED OVERSPEED for 90 percent of that trip

AI Piloting and Travel To features are mostly broken currently. You can see this when you try to use AI piloting from the Gate to Gate. A320 is more or less OK, Cessna J4 is OK, however on landing AI is adding full throttle (AI thinks this plane has revers). B-747 adds full throttle when AI is going to taxi the plane from the gate. C-172 can fly from the ramp to ramp. All the jets do not keep assigned altitudes (it looks that there is a different weather system for AI - the ATC all the road tells you to climb or descend, AI pilot dials altitudes not correctly, instead of let us say 23000 it dials 23099 or something like this), jets do not slow down on approach and goes around or crash. If you try to use "Travel to" it drops you too low usually, but for some planes this is not always a factor - you can be placed correctly on final, for example.

Have a go at trying to land a 747 at Gibraltar, coming in from the Portuguese side and without going over any land. That's what our pilot had to do back in the late 1980's in a Hercules, when I was in the TA's. For some reason, France would not allow our pilot to fly over French Airspace, so had to fly from RAF Brize Norton, flying over the sea all the way past France, Portugal & Spain and come in from the left.
