@Mikelikesgames-q5s I downloaded the textbooks, even though they're are different from those recommended at Wits and here's a list: 1. Computer Science (An overview, 13 edition by J. Glenn Brookshear and Dennis Brylow) 2. Python for everyone (3th edition, by Cay Horstmann and Rance Necaise) 3. C++ for everyone ( 2nd edition, by Cay Horstmann) and Java by the same author. Then, I added some subjects: 1. Pathfinder for pre - regional mathematical Olympiads ( by Prashant Jain) 2. Introductory Statistics (7th edition, by Prem S. Mann) 3. Concepts of Physics vol.1 & 2 by H C Verma 4. The ABC of Calculus vol1 & 2 by Angelo Mingarelli. 5. The Mathematics of money by Timothy J. Biehler There are others but they are advanced for me at this stage. Hope it helps.

1. You need basics in coding atleast loops and conditional statements, it will help a lot. 2. Be really interested, Math and English is not enough, you will struggle. 3. Don't do unnecessary electives choose an easy thing or where most students choose to go(Information Systems course). 4. Be very aware of how you spend your time in first year, time moves very fast in Wits for first years. Just finished first year going to 2nd year I have couple of friends in 2nd and 3rd year so this is what most of us experienced. Stay lit!

@ntokozomagwaza2890 😹I am generalizing when I say take the easy elective because you will drop it in 2nd year, it does not contribute to your skills as a computer scientist. Applied Math, Math and programming will be enough for a comp sci student. And for most newcomers in programming/coding I am just suggesting you take the easier electives even if you were really good in high school. You can take harder electives if you really want to see if you're buff.

Hi @th45e ,congrats on reaching your final year! I just got a conditional offer to study Computer Science at NWU, and I’d love to hear more about your experience. How has the program been for you so far?

@@Mogapimogapi it all depends on your work ethic. It has a lot a math in it, Computer Science modules have been very easy for me(both first and second year), First year mathematics modules were been very easy for me, second year maths modules were just okay(they have about 80%+ failure rate across the 3 campuses). Look out for first year physics though😂🙏🏾 So my advice is, just work hard and fall in love with the course and you’ll prosper🤝🏾and I believe that’s how it is in all the universities! It all becomes easy if you put in the work. I got a GK and BridgeOne invitations because of my first average, it was 79% with 7 out 10 distinctions. I hope you remember this when you start your journey next year🙏🏾all the best!

Gift, There's two programs of CompSci that UJ offers. Firstly, one with informatics and secondly one which has Informatics and AI. Personally, I've never heard of anyone doing the one which has AI. Apparently you need Level 7 for mathematics to do that course. Maybe xa une xesha i was hoping you could indulge more on this program.🙏

IKS and CS are almost the same. They have the same core modules like coding but with CS you have 2 streams of maths you have to choose from and it's compulsory to have the maths modules whereas in IKS some maths modules are electives, and it also has some BCom modules. I know there are cases where one is accepted for IKS due to space then they transfer to CS later on.

​@asandamabanga9246 Yes, you need to do first year. And I'm not sure if the IT department does mid-year transfers. I haven't seen any cases but I know people usually transfer after completing first year of IKS. So when you transfer the following year basically you are in 2nd of CS but with CS first year electives.
