Plot twist twist: The whole video was made and uploaded by HyperGan (the AI he used) after it gained self awareness halfway through the training data, killed carykh by electrocuting him and then used his brain as a computer for an artificial intelligence program of HyperGan's own design to generate human sounding voices which produced the sampled heard during the video.

I know you probably don't like to hear this, but the animations on this video are extremely good. To see you producing a video of 15! minutes long, with (nearly) every second animated, is just fantastic. You probably don't want to animate any more, and I would understood if you stopped, but for me that's what makes your videos so good. Many people simply talk while showing their program, you go a step further to make it enjoyable! This way many non-experts (like me) can understand and enjoy the video. Anyway, you will probably not read this, but if you do, please consider to continue animating (or hire someone ^^)

I come here for the computer science. The animation is just a cherry on top. If you don't want to animate, that's fine! I say that you should do what some other youtubers do which is just a still picture of them that just moves a little. Its not exactly animating but a lot more like moving pictures. (I hope I made sense lol) EDIT: the animation starting at 9:45 is the one I'm talking about. I'm cool if ur vids were like that

Even if it didn't work very well, trying alternate methods is absolutely valuable, as we see what works and what doesn't, we can understand the methods used on a more conceptual basis, which will likely help fuel future research and development in AI learning.

This reminds me of the time I made a singing vocal synthesizer for my college capstone project. It was called "MYNA" and it was made in Max for Live, if you wanted to look it up. Essentially, I went about it the dumbest, most brute-force way possible. The program took MIDI data and phonetic text to pick from a selection of phonemes that my friend Neal recorded, interpolated them together, and put them through what was basically auto-tune. It didn't sound terrible. Sometimes, the bleeding edge isn't always the best way to make something. :P
@alexhauptmann298
@alexhauptmann298 4 жыл бұрын
That said, the weird "imperfect" sounds this program makes are really cool? So I wouldn't say that this approach is entirely "unuseful". Brian Eno once said something to the extent of "every technological artifact we think sounds ugly now will be treasured in the future". Think about guitar distortion, tape hiss, vinyl crackle, even the primitive attempts of old analog synthesizers to replicate acoustic instruments. There's an industry and entire genres of music (lo-fi hip hop, anyone?) that are dedicated to celebrating and REPLICATING these artifacts. I find that fascinating. So hell, maybe there's room for an AI-driven additive synthesizer somewhere!

This isn't criticism as much as an idea. I noticed that as you went on your animation just had it's mouth opening and closing as you talked on without actually trying to lip sync. How feasible would it be to teach a network to distinguish vowels and pauses to automatically generate lip sync data for you to then transpose in post? Maybe you could even teach it to transpose automatically for you. I think it would be a really cool experiment, perhaps even a useful asset.

I like the way that you attempted this. The most natural way really, when you consider your ears work in a similar fashion to an audio spectrum analyser. I'd have done it by chopping the spectrographs up into smaller pieces, say 0.2 seconds, then using some algorithm to detect which pieces were unique and assign them some number (label). You could then send the sequence of labels into an RNN and have it say some random phrases (hopefully sounding like the original speaker), instead of the character by character demos you often see. Speech doesn't require many parameters to synthesise - If you go back far enough (1939!) there were human operated machines - The 'Voder' was one, that could speak if the operator was suitably trained.
@threeMetreJim
@threeMetreJim 5 жыл бұрын
I can confirm that teaching an RNN using a spectrograph plot, does actually work (and quite well). RNN only has a 25 pixel memory (same system as carykh uses - 100 pixels per second), so only picks up on words or part words, and not the word/gap combinations - maybe another network that learns spacing? Wouldn't be very data intensive at all, just predicting the next word+gap length (by amplitude change/slope downwards, to find the gaps). The RNN tries to predict the next line of the spectrograph plot; I've arranged it so the input is a 64 pixel single line image plus the hidden state (which is entered by appending to the image pixels), with the output (prediction) being a 64 pixel single line image. RNN using single line of spectrograph for prediction, past memory size 25. www.dropbox.com/s/u2gahl05xg8ntls/rr.wav?dl=0 Same but using someone else's voice www.dropbox.com/s/1ojita4uzmnnej8/carykh%201300.wav?dl=0

It won't, it is limited by the network size, image resolution and other factors. In theory you can generate human speech with neural networks. But you can't just "let it run long enough", you need to do smarter stuff with network topology, input manipulation and learning algorythms to make your setup perfect for the task. Then give it faster hardware. THEN you run it long enough and hope it'll work.

I believe the trick he is talking about it more like a theory in music (a director has explained this to me personally). When humans listen to notes we hear both overtones and undertones of each note. When we hear a G for example we're actually hearing SEVERAL hz. So what happens in incomplete chords, we naturally feel tension and our brains complete the missing hz
6 жыл бұрын
Madison Curry Those several Hzs are harmonics from what I've learned so far. What I've heard here was a similar kind of... hmm... vibration? that the 100Hz sine wave gives out, but not the exact tone. It fits what you described and what was described in the video. :)

Have some confidence in yourself, god damn. I'm new to your channel and you spent 3 minutes attempting to placate your audience and telling us why we shouldn't watch your video. I pushed through and you've done a ton of research and put a lot of effort into your video. Let your work speak for itself, you don't need to say why you're not as good as other channels or why you're better than other channels, your work should speak for itself and the audience can see and appreciate that. If you happen to read this 'carykh', I mentioned before that I'm new to your channel and with the ton of effort you put into making this, the self deprecation is seriously off-putting and made me want to check something else out. Idk if it's a personality thing or 'schtick' but I'm just putting my 2 cents out there. Sell yourself, man. You're a whole lot smarter than I am and you know what you're talking about. Own it and be proud of your ability at .wav to spectogram imaging or whatever the hell that black magic was.

I didn't say that at all but by literally having 'and you won't be impressed' in your title and the first three minutes saying that it's shit, it's not going to lead a new viewer to believe this is worth watching or that I should care about what you have to say. I'm really going down the route of saying it doesn't have to be said rather than repositioning himself as an overzealot, clickbaiting, view hungry ass hole that's going to ask you to subscribe within the first 10 seconds. I'm saying this because that's what I felt and I could have very easily been lost from the start.
