So, I need an UPS that will power just a router and Synology NAS and I want it to run on battery for an hour or so. I figure that since Synology has external power supply that converts AC to DC so 9V DC comes to NAS isn’t it irrelevant whether an UPS has pure or stepped sinewave? The external PSU of Synology will eventually correct the sine wave convert it to DC. Please advise. Thank you.

I wish I watched this video before that $100 UPS at Costco caught my eye. Has a simulated sine wave although I only would want to use it so that I shut down my PC properly during an outage. Great video.

You say you can’t take small UPS (500VA) for example which would come with something 7AH battery and hook up a car battery but you can and I have, for many many years. Secondly many UPS measure the battery and with a USB cable and their software will automatically shutdown your computer at a value you set. (APC uses Parachute software for example which is mostly what I use. You can even set how low or high the wall voltage can be before it takes over. I also have an inverter for a car with an AGM battery and a charger, which is kinda like building your own UPS but your charger has to keep up with the draw as battery is ALWAYS being used.

Larry Thanks for the info. I have thought that if you open online store who wants a customize ups that can a start a small business like the UPS pure sine wave. Thanks Ben

Larry, do you know where we can buy the Sunchonglic FFU-1000C that you mention in the video? I would appreciate it if you can tell us the name of the hardware or electronic store. Thanks
@LarryElterman2 жыл бұрын
I bought it in the Philippines. It's china made. You might be able to find it on Amazon. If not try the Chinese site Alibaba.com. Do you live in the Philippines? The store is in Dumaguete, electronics store next to rejoice hardware.

I'm searching for a pure sine wave line interactive ups for my hi-fi equipment as i have a very noisy AC line. Do you have any recommendations for a cheap one? I don't want any power backup. I just want a super clean AC power supply.

@@LarryElterman do these pure sine wave ups output pure sine waves even when it's running on AC or do they simply pass through the current?
@LarryElterman2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the UPS. I go over that in my video. Some of them just pass through the wall current, some of them always monitor the current and make sure the output is good. Those are called line interactive or AVR UPS. Keep in mind that pass through current from the wall should be pure sine wave.

@@LarryElterman i stay in a high rise apartment and have super noisy ac line. It's so bad that it causes my linear power supply to produce loud low hum around 30-40hz in my headphones and my music distorts like crazy. I'm getting a triplite isolation transformer tomorrow to see if it fixes the problem. But it doesn't have ground isolation so I'm skeptical if it will work. Last option is AVR ups which i guess is super expensive.
@LarryElterman2 жыл бұрын
I don't have much experience with your problem, but I do have a few suggestions. Have you tried talking to the landlord or the electrical company? It seems to me you are entitled to decent electricity. Then, strictly an AVR is just a voltage regulator, an AVR by itself will not clean up a noisy line. If you have the money and inclination you may want to get somebody who has an oscilloscope so you can figure out exactly what is wrong with your line. If you do buy a device to clean up your line make sure, as you say, it is functioning at all times and does not just adjust voltage, but produces it's own sine wave from the noisy line.

A good video with far more information than others on UPS, however it ended very strangely. Having told us all the things to look for you then go and buy a whole different thing, no Sine wave, no AVR, no warning facility etc.!

??? what are you talking about. it has pure sine wave

@@LarryElterman Well you spent twenty minutes offering good information then promptly chose something completely different without giving us any real information about the device you purchased so you cannot really expect any other than for people to make their own assumptions. Not a great response to a viewer who had liked your video, that's now changed to a dislike. You act like a nine year old!

But you are completely wrong, that was a full functioning UPS with alarm and pure sine wave, and I explained it as such. There for you have no idea what you are talking about. You probably did not even watch the whole video. You probably just like believing you are.... no, i won't finish, otherwise you might call me an eight year old :) And as if one dislike is going to change my life. You're an idiot. The inverter he showed had a pure sign wave printed right on the front of it.
