They look from the names to be bounced out midi regions to audio brought back in as a loop. If you actually listen to the commentary the clap for example is from Maschine bounced out so they processed it externally and dropped it back in with the processing on and they say they do that for a lot of the drums. Similarly the arp 'loop' is a bounced down midi region which will have been done to save CPU. Doing the 8 bar loops as they have done and looping them with cycles in Logic saves a ton of disk space in your project vs bouncing out the whole track as an audio stem.
