CompX L Handle Disassembly to Rekey

This was going to be a impressioning then disassembly video but we got hit with a surprise :)
Sometimes impressioning sucks ;) so let’s see how these come apart.

That impressioning you did reminds me of a time in locksmith school that we discovered we can open this one padlock just by putting the tension wrench in the lock.

Tim said his was a sealed unit. I like that idea of making the key blank to a knife edge to impression, very impressive idea. Lol. I think that would help me impression all my old lockwood padlocks.🍺✌😎🇦🇺

Sometimes I find using a sharpie as well as a knife edge can help if you are having trouble identifying where the marks are if you don’t have a magnifying glass handy

Don't some wafer locks have a retaining wafer, like automotive? Thanks for this Jason.

Some do absolutely! Many don't have a bottom ledge though so it won't come out by just easily pushing with a pick. On those, the half diamond and some twisting will work

Mostly newer National and Timberline furniture locks, or Chicago cabinet and furniture locks (especially those used in office furniture like Hon and Steelcase).

Ethan I usually shine it up with a file if I missed a spot and I feel like it’s needed for the lock. I’ve spent many a year hand filing that part and I much prefer rough finishing it with follow up as needed. Most likely would do/mention that in whatever video I do for impressioning. Also you should get that “you’re supposed to” mindset cleared up :)

I'm gonna presume, at some point in it's lifetime it has come apart BUT it certainly didn't appear that way (no marks on the roll pin) I dunno for sure
