This video has decided to blow up 6 months later for some reason, so i’m just here to drop in and say: IM NOT A TANKIE 😵‍💫😭 i’m drowning in tankie allegations from all these new comments!! i am an anarcho-communist/socialist, i’m using the tankie communist imagery in the thumbnail and the ussr music at the beginning as a gesture to the dream of communism (anti capitalism, pro worker, community, revolution) and also just for the meme. i 100% recognize all the issues within the ussr, fuck stalin n all that, It’s just all in good fun so try not to take this vid too seriously, comrades! 🖤🫡

Tankies tend to be the most obnoxious but they at least have one thing going for them: They have a plan beyond just relying on society to be perfectly altruistic. If society was perfectly altruistic, it doesn't matter what system you have. It would be amazing either way. I genuinely don't like how ancoms have no idea for how to handle basic things like assuring the rules of its own society without either going "We'll have capable people handle it" (which is just another way of saying you want law enforcement/police) or "Everyone will be protecting themselves and each other" which just means you have no plans for assuring some other self-serving faction doesn't become the primary center of violent power. America is already a terrible example of what happens when everyone gets guns. You don't fix it by adding more guns and expecting grandmothers to protect themselves, especially if what they need to protect themselves from is the neighboring country of evil capitalists who still possess a coordinated military that isn't divided in to countless communes. There's a reason why anarchist societies don't really exist. They always lose to the state.

rough, since thatøs one of Brennan's worse and least educated takes. literally just doing what he in claiming others do: having an emotional reaction and then justifying that with ideology. being a young asshole bully is perhaps disproportionately comorbid with later fascism, but the idea that fascism is in any way a natural evolution of being such a person is fucking astoundingly stupid for someone otherwise so insightful. the nazis were a bunch of LARPing looser social outcasts for the most part until they all got together and decided to make their delusions everyone else's problems. There have been many decidedly socially aggressive, coercive, and domineering revolutionaries who nonetheless deeply held and died for the beliefs that. There have been asshole bullies for all 200,000 years of human existence, there have NOT been fascists (or even 'proto fascists' the way napoleon is often described) that long. so all he did was look at 2 things that kinda lined up and made a big sweeping statement on it. i.i. he just did some white lib shit fully embarrassing for a learned leftist. and while that's sad, it's also expected. Brennan is an amazing human being, but he is fully still a white, male, cis passing, straight passing, english speaking, academically educated, financially secure american. Literally raised in 'empire city', suckling at the teet of the imperial hegemon (or, more accurately, desperately trying to lap up form of what spills over the mouth of the actual imperial beneficiaries on Wall Street, but that is basically everyone born not already rich in the imperial core) the cruxof socialism however, the very thing he fully failed at here, is material and dialectical analysis. That very same material analysis lets us know that because of his demographic and its associated life circumstances, Brennan has not had and never will have the personal, lived experience needed to properly understand and internalize socialism or the struggle of the global working class. He can only ever be aware of how his world is skewed against that understanding, and seek to combat it. and i am sure he would say much the same of himself.

I disagree with the former quote, and partially with the latter. Personality does predate the development of the first ideologies in the first human societies, but the ideology which a child is raised under impacts their personal and moral development. A child of racist parents can be kind at heart, but, due to their upbringing, not consider black people to be human enough for their kindness. The most common origin of bully behavior is a lack of parental guidance, as often times without it they do not have a strong moral influence to guide their growth, and instead are more free to allow their personal problems (often also caused by lack of parental influence) inform what actions can be taken, and guide their moral development in more selfish directions.

7:32 I mean, this track goes both ways. Often the only thing between some of the kindest people, and leftists, is the knowledge that good things are possible and just really hard to fight for, instead of impossible. People without the language to express their more radical positions, default to what they know, so when you say, "Hey, there are words for exactly what you believe." A positive door is opened. And that's one of the many reasons I love Brennan, he's so good at introducing these things in fantastical contexts.

I love that they show both sides of policing in Fantasy High. Many individual police members joined the force with lofty ideals, and some continue to hold them and cling to their morals like Sklonda, but also the systemic and philosophical problems that make it very hard for "good cops" to exist. I've known many people who are police officers who are good and nice people, and even stand in direct opposition to things like corrupt police unions and blue walls of silence. At the same time, I've also known cops who had to _stop_ being cops because they were too good. If you rat on a dirty cop, chances are you'll be treated like a traitor, and your life may very much be at stake. They won't kill you, but they'll go out of their way to not respond to your calls for backup, they'll intentionally mess up paperwork and delay your pay for a week, they'll send you on all the dangerous calls without help or even first-aid, they'll do anything in their power to make your life difficult with the air of plausible deniability, until you either quit or die, at which point they'll use you as a martyr in order to further expand their ring of unaccountability. I don't fully subscribe to ACAB, because I think that individualizes the problem too much. The problem isn't that all cops are bad, people like Sklonda exist in the real world, the problem is the systems in place favor and protect bad cops, and that a lot of police culture encourages people towards being bad cops. The problems are systemic, not personal.
