Every, and I mean EVERY time Conan's eating habits come up in conversation, we're reminded of how deeply his brother Neil traumatized him as a child. Conan has two go-tos: A) his brother Neil was apparently on a childhood crusade to starve Conan to death, and B) Conan's favorite comedy foods are some pork product, usually ham.

I've been watching these clips for a few months, and I've noticed Conan has a lot of the earmarks of someone with Adult ADHD. I'm not a doctor, but I've been living with ADHD for nearly 40 years. Listening to, and watching Conan, is like looking into a mirror. Love you Conan! You're a jolly good fellow!

I have an ADHD as well, and I hate shaving (I use a safety razor now, which means I have to focus otherwise I’ll slash my face into threads), I couldn’t stand eating, shout at myself in the mirror etc exactly like Conan. I’m much better now thanks to theraphy. I did not have a brother called Neal, so I think myself lucky.
@jarnobot Жыл бұрын
I've lived with ADHD-i (and aspergers) for nearly 30 years and I feel the same. Not just Conan, but a lot of people in the show business have similar traits. Same goes for Sona. Like how, from what I've seen, she forgets stuff right after she got asked to do something and how she likes to have certain self-controlled, extra stimulations (like watching Friends while working). She actually reminds me a lot of a good friend of mine personality wise (and even in looks lol), who has a very similar diagnose as I do. I think it contributes a lot to our friendship by having a similar mindset and the same type of humor. Actually, most of my closest friends have some form of ADHD or autism, often diagnosed long after we became friends. I feel like Sona and Conan might have a similar connection as well, whenether they realize it or not. However, I'm not a doctor either and I only know their on-screen persona's, so take this all with a grain of salt. It's just an observation.

Someone must introduce Conan, and I know money may be tight at the O'Brien household, to the electric shaver.
@commentnocomment32462 жыл бұрын
Agreed, for people in a hurry or that don't view shaving or personal grooming as a 10 minute self care meditation which even includes a version of aromatherapy depending on the shaving products you use in the mornings to collect their thoughts and let their minds kinda concentrate on something which to most is less stressful than the rest of their days or whenever that quiet point of concentration happens like a home spa or when guys used to go to barber shops and get the full hot towel, man facial, once or twice a week, and only every day if they happened to be very affluent, anyway all that was before the gangster Anastasia got offed in the barbershop in New York I believe, which eventually led to gangsters foregoing the three piece suits for jogging suits and under shirts and less manicured appearances like in the Sopranos, but today Barbershops are actually not known to produce criminals because it's stupid to be a criminal in one place all day where everyone knows you will be, and like Anastasia, it could be the only place they can get to you at. Thus, many people being rehabilitated often choose barber as a profession, as it's a steady job with daily money if you have a list of clients you can count on and also discourages the need to participate in illicit criminal activity if you're good at it. Many people counter this argument by mentioning Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, but he wasn't a real person, and the only publicized newspaper clipping of anything I could find where real life mimicked the literary fiction was regarding a 20 something year old barber who's reputation had been tarnished by a client who was a school teacher that came in once a week for a shave that he claimed spread the rumor that he was a dirty barber which during the Victorian Era and starting during the years following the decline of Rome when Medical professionals warned people about the rate of life threatening infections caused by microorganisms in the public baths considering them dirty and bad for public welfare. This was also a time when dentistry and haircuts and hair removal were usually taken care of or could be all done at the same place, or at least that's the direction things were going in at that point. And, acquiring an infection from a minor cut or the irritation caused by a client rushing you thru his shave led them to believe their razor burn or persistent ingrown hairs was actually an infection caused by the dirty tools that barber used instead, which wasn't always the case and would adversely affect their client list if people started blaming their acne lice mange or whatever their issues were causing the inability to obtain a woman's attention on a bad shave, or their barbers which was actually the opposite thing going to a barber was supposed to do for, well, anyone. Unlike today, when people come out with some of the ugliest, but trendy, haircuts I've never wanted to look at again, as I thought we got past that phase in the 1980's. Anyway, the height of rumors involving criminal barbers were in the Victorian Era and most of those were due to the fact the straight razors were being used to commit violent acts but that was more due to the fact knives were more suspicious when found of a person bearded or otherwise, than straight razors on a clean shaven dude when a violent crime had been committed. Thus since that was the tool of the barber the conclusions and rumors happened regarding barbers being the culprits even if the crimes were committed several miles away from the nearest barber or barbershop. Now we have all kinds of razors for both men and women that don't require you to even have to bend a blade to insert it into the metal handle you used to have to drag across your skin, not to mention waxing, threading, electrolysis and laser therapies, ect. So, there are other options for hair removal and all barbershops and salons are inspected for cleanliness in the US and that's why they have the combs and tools in the jars being sanitized and all the certifications posted on their mirrors at their stations or near the front desk, where everyone can see them.

I get what Conan is saying about shaving and brushing his teeth. I have to remind myself to not SCRUB the enamel off my teeth when I brush, so much so I can’t hold the brush with all my fingers. I have to hold it in a way that only my thumb and forefinger (and maybe middle) are holding it so it can’t be used roughly. Shaving is indeed a place where I shave potentially recklessly. I remember a friend in college saw me shave and said it reminded him of how his dad shaved, like there’s no time to do it but it has to get done. Conan taking a chunk out of his face also sounds familiar. I was a teenager shaving once, and I was goin hog wild and quickly shaved part of my tragus off (the small curved cartilage part of your ear next to your cheekbone). I shaved it off going to fast and reckless. It never grew back, one side is now noticeably flat while the other is curved if you touch them.
